Chelsea 0-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Yeah, there was basically the moment in the first five minutes where he went round him and got that cross in that no one connected with. Apart from that, there was only really one other occasion where CHO got past him.

He looked lost a couple of times but i don't think he struggled like some have said.
I will try to show you the clips when he got past tomorrow

I can't believe people are trying to defend that tripe and celebrating a point. An absolutely cowardly way to approach a football game. I could understand if it was semi-final and we were against the odds, or we needed a point to stay up, but it's a point that may make a difference between 12th and 13th, it's genuinely not worth it. It was horrible to watch, and would've been horrible to play in.

We can't even take confidence from it, because unless we're going to carry on playing a flat back seven, it's irrelevant to our defensive structure and stability for when we decide to try and ask our talented footballers to play actual football.
Would you have rather we lost in a cavalier fashion ?

I assume you are saying Nuno’s football is defensive and boring? I feel for you if that is the case, these past 3 years have been the best in my Wolves supporting life.
Hard to argue he's not defensive.

Good effort by Hudson-Odoi but the first touch by Donck is poor. If he then fluffed the shot I'd understand people's point about attacking quality etc but he is good enough to control that in front of him rather than what he actually did.
I thoughtful anything his first touch was ‘to good’ , great ball by Neto to find him - but not a suprise as it’s not in his ‘skill set’. Far more in his skill set is the one cracking block he did about 15 from the end.

confidence building point, stop the rot against a team with a new manager.

focal point up top is massive for how we play so hopefully that will transform us going forward.

No, a point won’t make a huge difference in the final points tally, but getting a draw against a top team (you still have to say chelsea are) can lay the foundations going forward.

horrible watch but if it’s the platform for us to go on, then more than happy

I actually think I would, if we learned something from it, and continued with the supposed transition. That performance and that point has taught us nothing, and will achieve nothing. If we'd have tried to play football, we would have potentially had a long term benefit in aid of Nuno's aim of learning how to genuinely compete with the established elite.

I understood the approach against Sevilla, given what was at stake, and had no complaints at all. But there's absolutely no need to approach a game like that at this point in the season

Defensive, conservative in his approach maybe, but not boring.

We haven't played in the way we want to since lockdown at all I think, only in some small spells (Arsenal away in the first half for example). Inviting the ball into certain areas of the pitch, stealing it and breaking quickly. I think some of that is down to physical issues, where the lack of preparation time in both 'project restart' and this season have hurt us It definitely feels like we've had less goals from counter attacks in general.

Feels like we have hit a bit of a reset since the West Brom defeat. By the end of the season definitely hope to see us get closer to that approach, with better 'solutions' to when teams defend deep against us too, so that we can look forward to next season with a couple of additions in key positions.

I know what you mean, although I can rationalise it in the short term personally.

I can take it as a one-off kick start, especially with the clean sheet as I've already said, but starting Saturday we have to begin to see the merest hint of progress, and this evolution we've heard about for half a season. We have too many talented attacking and creative players to waste them.

His first touch took him backwards pretty much, it was really poor. needed to go forwards and out of his feet so he could get the shot away.

It has to be that otherwise Sky and BT will be dropping their request to show every game live. let's see what Saturday brings.

I dunno mate, I think we've definitely tipped over into boring during this recent barren spell. Hopefully we can break out of it

Yeah I think the evolution will be paused now and we will witness the normal Nuno style until May now and reset with a proper preseaon.

I'm talking about over his entire reign (which is what I basically wrote about next in that post! ;))

Perhaps, but part of that normal Nuno style was transitioning with pace. We can't just do the defensive bit...

We're trying to turn around the worst run of form both points wise and defensively since we got promoted. Not making any silly mistakes and keeping a clean sheet away at a tough away game is just the sort of result to give them a bit of confidence to get out of this slump.

Palace at home will help continue that as we historically do well against them, and we have a new striker to focus our attacks around.

God damn right I'm taking the positives out of tonight.

Ends do just about justify the means, if for no other reason than to (hopefully) put the brakes on this run we've been on and put a little confidence back in the team.

There's absolutely no way we can play like that on a regular basis though.

As others have said I do worry about Neto a bit. I might be misremembering but didn't he have a mini-spat with Nuno shortly after he arrived when he was subbed? Think it might've been the Carabao game against Villa. Granted some of it will be his age but I don't see him being happy to carry on playing this way, he's visibly frustrated pretty much every game at the moment. Fingers crossed Jose can help and give him (and the rest of them) something to work with.

I think it helps when we have an actual focal point up front. Silva and Patrick can't be that and we have suffered for it. We saw today and previously having no actual forward destroys our play. A lot of pressure on WJ but if the ball sticks up there again then we are back to that style.

Ran was skinned half a dozen times and rightly tugged at half time. A big learning point for him regarding the need to be perfectly positioned. Half a yard wrong and you get done. Still he’s 19 and one for the future. Coady Boly Kilman Samedo all had their best games for a while, Boly in particular. Podence is as lightweight as Silva . Another who may be made of biscuits. Get up and give a little back. Neto and Jota had a bit of mongrel about them and Podence needs that. He has the talent. WJ put himself about a bit and his last ditch clearance won us a point. Adama contributed sfa. Neto a pest all game. Donk puts the yards in but can’t hit a cows arse with a banjo unfortunately, although his chances were toughies as xg shows . I can take a bus park against a big six if it gets a result and tonight it did. So the end justifies the means. Rui was far more vocal tonight and the defence looked far more solid. We can’t play like that against palace. WJ to start
