Burnley (H) 5/12: Build-Up & Match Thread

Why can’t we take a corner?!

I know we’re now leading, but I’d have Bellegarde on for Sarabia and Doyle for Gomes.

The bulk of that half was really, really poor & we’ve got Bentley to thank for keeping us in it.

I think it’s more Bentley made two wonderful saves rather than them not taking their chances.

Either way, we’re winning & I have a strong IPA in front of me - so happy days!
I'm partly just being an ass (quelle surprise), but in fairness, Bentley is part of the team, so him making those saves is part of why, IMV, we fully "deserve" the lead.

If we had Bazunu in goal it'd be a different story!

Ugh. Lucky to be in front there. Joao putting in a proper Karl Henry of a performance and needs hooking ASAP.

Semedo having a good game, back line look solid. Our attacking link up play is very disjointed though, and what on earth is going on with our corners??? Consistently awful!

Sarabias's corners were shocking, but he's played a couple of delightful passes in open play. Need more from Cunha in the 2nd half. He's been anonymous.

We’ve mainly been shite but will gladly take the 1-0 lead. I don’t know why we’ve been so slow and passive as whenever we have upped the tempo we’ve created something.

Surely we’ll be better in the 2nd half, especially with their best player off.

Doyle's value continues to rise by virtue of apparently being the only player we have who knows how to strike a dead ball.

Build up is snails pace for the most part and our passing sloppy. We did try and speed it up last 15 minutes of the half which lead to a few good attacking moments, probably the best cross Semedo has ever put in.
Goal was excellent, people will say its poor by Burnley (it was) but our pressing was really good, good lay off by Cunha and good finish by Hwang.
Couple of good saves by Bentley.

Just watching the replays of those Bentley saves - absolute quality. The first save is brilliant (although straight at him), but the second one takes a deflection and to get down and tip that around the post is top quality. Fair play to him.

Not that we executed it especially well, but I could imagine the plan will have been to keep the 1st half tight and hope to drain them of any confidence earned by their result against Blades.

Seems we tried hard to fuck that up but came out with basically the perfect HT scoreline (obviously you'd take more than 1 if offered but a lead is a lead).

Gomes has had a bad day, I`d swap for Doyle. Better dead ball delivery and he might find Semedo out there waiting on the touch line. Nobody else has seemed to see him.

As I said earlier, Gomes seemed a lot better after his error, I'd prefer his grit as we have a lead, especially as Brownhill is on a booking.

Give him 10 mins and see how he is.

How often do HT subs even actually happen? Especially by a side with the lead. Can't be much, surely.

Started the second half just as sloppily. I’m hoping to see O’Neil be proactive and try and improve things
