Brighton 0 - 0 Wolves Verdict Thread

Ward became the on field incarnation of McCarthy. He was never as bad as some made out. Golbourne shone in a side playing at league 1 level, he was never as good as some made out.

Have to agree, that, on the surface Edwards - and to a lesser extent - Henry - seem to be the first names on the team sheet. The Midfield on Saturday was a shambles - too much miscommunication - and little creativity - Ojo was very ineffective, not once did he attempt to go past a player, Byrne did more in his first two minutes. Edwards may be needed for his experience and attitude but It would have to be in the number 10 slot and a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3. Coady after a bright start is becoming a bit more of a liablity with the bookings already and of course the sending off on Saturday. Price is far more effective - if he is fit. Price has to be given a run in the team now, probably with MacDonald.

It needs to be Henry on the left, Byrne on the right for the next league game. Henry played really well on the left against Charlton.

I would be rather disappointed if a referee was sending a player off based on an incident in another game. Though the challenge on Shaw was shocking and should have resulted in a red card.

Or the man of the match award from uefa?

This should be changed. There are 4 officials watching play (and in some games another 2) can't see the problem with a ref seeking another opinion not least because even if the ref is in no doubt they could still be wrong.

Fair comment, but if the referee is in no doubt about what action he will take, then he does not really need to ask for clarification.

Without wanting this thread to be completely off topic... I think referees not speaking to their colleagues to get a rounder picture of events is one of the problems football is facing. Too many refs think they know everything and so brandish red cards out with a flourish, or let Diego Costa do what he wants!

Just seen the highlights for the first time. Not a red for me. After the Milijas red vs Arsenal McCarthy said that another manager phoned him and said "If that's a red we might as well give up", that's how I feel about this one. Forget this, "would've been a yellow 5 years ago" crap, he won the ball fair and square. That tackle should've been on that highlights package as a moment of true skill in amongst a game almost completely devoid of it.

Exactly Frank, but a straight red is as severe as you can get.
Should a ref immediately before holding up a straight red, not discuss with nearest linesman the possibility that he just might have seen something or had a slightly better view?

Referees don't even want the assistants to do the job they're there for (signalling the direction of a throw in for example) so why would they want the assistant to take away their power and glory?? Their moment in the spotlight!
