I'd say Gomes made a silly challenge and a red isn't unusual for that kind of tackle.

The Damsgaarde challenge is a red every day of the week without a debate.

So Gomes gets sent off for studs making contact with the opponent's ankle. Brentford player does the same on Doyle. Nothing. Not even a foul or card! Disgraceful officiating, AGAIN!
