"I've been away abroad and wasn't aware of the latest rules"

I was going to make a sarky comment about his son being Prime Minister but Boris has also been a bit sketchy on the rules this week

Without googling the report he mentions I would presume that Pubs/Restuarants running at a reduced capacity but having to be fully staffed due to how service has to be done, I would say a lot of places would struggle to break even maybe make a small loss. The obvious benefit is people were getting paid and still in work but how long will they be in work if the places have to go another 3-6 months at 50 - 60% capacity especially when the Furlough scheme ends/is reduced to 20% next month

Patrick Vallance said the epidemic was doubling “roughly every seven days” and said government modelling showed that could mean about 50,000 cases per day by mid-October. That, in turn, would lead to 200 deaths per day by mid-November.

Vallance said there had been an increase in positive cases across all age groups, which was not down to increased testing.

Wasn't he stating that this would happen without any measures in place to restrict the growth in cases? If the cases double this week and next he would be correct so the modelling is currently about right?

With a healthy dose of fact. The lack of announcement of the £1.57bn Cultural Recovery Fund has sent a lot of venues to the brink - the RSC are keeping two closed until 2022 and placed 150 staff on redundancy notice. There have been around 5,000 job losses in total since COVID-19 began and from a lot of big players: the Hippodrome, the Birmingham REP, Theatre Royal Plymouth etc.

These aren't your small scale town venues, they're venues that generate thousands upon millions in turnover a year.

But it's OK, apparently we don't have proper jobs and should just go do an apprenticeship. Would definitely pay my mortgage, that
