Not sure which thread suits this best but the RMT struggles and strikes have been documented in here so…
NHS pay rises announced yesterday. Some very clever tactics at work, hiding the percentages behind a ‘figure’ of £1400.
Now a £1400 rise across the board means a larger increase for those at the lower end than those higher up for which there is a case, but this is a backdoor variable rate increase and the real percentages are alarming.
With impending industrial action, as per the RMT and other sectors, one of the struggles is getting the truth out there against a tide of government spin. Needless to say, in real terms these are not rises, just different speeds with which you fall further behind. As is the way this is of course about so much more than just money. Patient care is suffering, morale is on the floor, there is the legacy of the physical and emotional strain of covid and now cost of living is out of control. Your reward is to carry on and fall further behind. And be grateful for it too.
Will be lots of differing opinions about the salaries, rises, ethics of disguised variable increases and any subsequent industrial action, but hopefully the table below will provide some clarity which is going to be important in fighting the coming smokescreen of government spin:
