It's pure political theatre from Labours perspective and hugely damaging for Boris of course. That said, he votes kids into poverty, is anti climate action and hates refugees. Wanting an ideologically pure Labour party is one thing but the bar has to be set at least a little higher than this nobhead.

I don't think you can reject him in the moment, because of the statement it makes. Once that stops being politically useful I do hope they bin him off, he's a scumbag in every regard with the exception of calling Owen Patterson what he is

Trouble is, I don’t believe the story. Especially as it seems an odd step for a parent who has just nursed a very sick baby through Covid to then immediately lift all Covid restrictions for political expediency.

Even so, Boris would look immensely stupid and incapable of thought if he blames Reynolds. Would he allow his ego to take that?

There might not be a paper trail but if Sue Gray is to report on the facts then she would be able to report that the PMs senior advisors knew what sort of event it was and it was stated that the PM would be asked about the event.

His defence would be that he wasn't informed of this, didn't know the rules and that he didn't know it was a party. It would leave the PM in a position whereby people would be willing to swear on oath that he knew of the event. If he doesn't resign he would have to front up to those threats of swearing on oath.

Claiming he didn’t know the rules just won’t wash. He’s kicked the can down the road until Sue Grey reports and he will have to answer that. Surely even Tory MPs aren’t going to accept the man making the rules didn’t know them? Currently many are ducking the issue as they don’t want to put their heads above the parapet but come Soogray Day they have to jump one way or the other. Currently they are probably hoping enough other MPs write to Graham Brady and that they can get rid of him without breaking cover. Spineless twats!
