Boring, boring Wanderers

The thing that frustrates and infuriates me about Jackett, is his man management.

Spending millions on decent prospects to then bench them or loan them out. Stifles their progression and causes them to resent the manager, as was recently posted about Wallace.

How many of us were excited about the arrival of Wallace, Ojo and Byrne? The mood on here was quite positive towards all three last summer and we had had high hopes. Now if those guys had been played regularly and turned out to be duds, we probably would have accepted it, as they were all gambles and unproven at this level.

But to bench them in favour of Edwards or RvlP, players who we know all about, is just madness IMO. I mean, who spends 3m on a player who scores on his debut and then benches him in the ideal away game to continue his form? I appreciate that Mason may be ill, but based on previous baffling decisions, I wouldn't be so sure......

It's obvious Ken doesn't have faith in certain players, it must be based on what he sees in training, but we don't get points from what happens on the training ground, and I absolutely do not believe that either Wallace, Ojo or Byrne are training badly enough to not even deserve 15 -20 mins at the end of a game, especially when we are drawing and need a change of pace on a certain position.

So what is the issue then? Why does he continuously mismanage players? Why is he reluctant to use the subs who are available? Can you imagine how depressing it must be to be named as a sub on match day, knowing full well you've got a 10% chance of actually getting some game time.

If we weren't up for sale and had an owner who actually gave a shit, Jackett would have gotten the bullet ages ago. This is an alternate reality we are living in and it fucking sucks. I hate our situation and am completely nonplussed what happens to us at the moment because either way, Jackett remains in charge.

Agree with all of this except Ojo he had a decent chance and showed nothing.

I think the issue there would be that he watched Jordan Graham every single day in training for nine months and then decided that Sheyi Ojo was a better option, and that we'd better send Jordan down to League Two. Lest we forget he was about the 8th choice to play on the left wing for us this season. And Dave Edwards was the first choice. Dave Edwards.

Meanwhile have a look at Millwalls highlights and the two assets by Wallace, wonderful for the first. If Jackett loses this kid on the back of a 65 minute 'chance' I hope he's lynched.

Wasn't quite that black and white with Graham. He had a few issues that meant he had win back the trust at the club. A bit like Bright has had to do.

What I cannot bare above all is the myth that it is KJ getting the best out of the players he has at his disposal.

We have ALWAYS set up and played this way under KJ. Quality personnel and much more flair than the opposition in League One really did mask over the fact that in general our style of play was slow, dull and with the back four sitting so deep, even then.

Ipswich at home last season was the final straw for me in terms of KJ. A game we should have gone all out to win, particularly with our team then, and we put 10 men behind the ball and looked to hit them on the break,at fucking home.

Kenny Jackett is a lier and a pretender. He comes up with so much bull about a "pressing, high tempo" game but we have never, ever played that way. With Sako, Dicko and Afobe breaking on the counter it may have looked that way but generally it couldnt be further from the truth.

Dull.

You never know, Kenny could return to Millwall as manager and Wallace could be there on the cheap.

A month or so back I got a fair amount of ridicule for suggesting that we did well last season despite Jackett and that at times the players - Dicko, Afobe, Sako - might have ignored his instructions. No comment on that - and meanwhile Jed Wallace wins Millwall's player of the month & wins rave reviews. So, so frustrated with the mismanagement (at all levels) that is fucking up the club and the season

I'm at the point where I wonder what Jackett has to do in order to get sacked. I can't remember feeling this apathetic towards Wolves and I put it down to him; as I've said elsewhere, I now have a dislike of the manager that is on a similar level to Saunders.

I don't think there's any evidence that they "ignored his instructions", but it's true that he had perhaps the best attacking trio in in the division for the second half of the season and they were good enough together to send out without too much worry about telling them how to do their jobs - a lot like the season Chelsea won the Champions League, when I don't think anybody really felt Roberto di Matteo was actually the one in charge. (And we were defensively still quite dodgy throughout the season, but it didn't seem like it because we were good enough going forward to keep pressure off the back line.)

Throughout his time here Jackett's set his teams up cautiously, but he's got away with it because he's had creative attacking players as outlets. Sako going threw him completely, and we all saw how he had no idea how to use Afobe properly this season without Dicko and Sako on either side to provide creative support. He stumbled across Graham's ability after trying nearly every other player in the squad out on the left wing, and he keeps asking his number 10s (first Edwards, now Saville) to spend their time closing down the opposition midfield rather than acting as a source of creativity themselves.

When you look at our squad, fully fit, we could put out a really creative, fast, interesting team - maybe not as good as the one we had in the second half of last season, but certainly much, much better than the one we're seeing now. And it's fucking outrageous that the players who points towards that possible future team are being frozen out and sent out on loan or left on the bench, while players we all know should be squad backup at best (players like Henry, Edwards, Doherty) are not just seeing bigger roles for themselves this year, but are now our key players, with the team playing to their strengths.

Spot on. The thing is by having those three as more or less automatic picks - I will grant Henry a touch more leeway as he's scored seven goals which is decent, although he hasn't fulfilled the brief of being a winger very well - he gives us no choice but to believe that he rates them as footballers, they aren't in there as a last resort, they're in because he feels they are the best option, as demonstrated by alternatives being left out of the team. They have all been handed new contracts this season too, that has to be his call as well. You can add his obvious preference for Coady (an appalling purchase) over Price. Which means that his judgement is all over the place and that you can have little to no faith in things changing, he believes the way forward is to play technically deficient footballers. It beggars belief, unless the club is miles out its depth at this level (like say, Rotherham or MK Dons) then what kind of strategy is it to go into the majority of games hoping you can keep a clean sheet - mostly through good fortune, as we never look especially solid at the back - and then equally hoping in turn we can just pinch a goal from somewhere, because we don't really have any kind of plan in an attacking sense?

Now that the possibility of relegation is all but been removed, there are only two scenario's where I can see Jackett being relieved of his duties.
The first is a change of ownership, unfortunately there doesn't seem any imminent prospect of this occurring.
The second is that the current apathetic mood of the fans inside Molineux changes go something more vitriolic, directed towards Jackett.
Up until now, on the whole, Jackett has had an easy ride from the fans, who have vented their frustrations in the direction of Moxey and Morgan, but I sense a mood change after the last couple of debacles and fans are starting to become angry at his mismanagement.
We all know how poisonous a place Molineux can become when the fans turn and I honestly believe that is the only way we'll see a change of manager this term.

In addition proslo, think back to November 2014 when Dicko was out injured, coincided with our horrific slump where we couldn't win a game.

Also remember October 2014 when we were 3-0 up away at Millwall but still managed to throw itvaway.

We need a change

I honestly can't understand what he's trying to do anymore. If he's being uber cautious and trying to protect the back 4, it's lunacy - we don't have anything much to play for. Give us something to get excited about! It also doesn't explain the total lack of creativity when we do have the ball in attacking areas.

The line up at 85 minutes on Tuesday was the first time my opinion on KJ started to change.

I really really want him to prove everyone wrong and get us playing the way we did during the 2nd half of last season.

But he's making it increasingly hard to give me any indication that he's able to turn it round. There must be someone out there who can get more out of this bunch of players, regardless of the injuries we've suffered.

I stayed away from the matchday thread yesterday (on purpose) and came in later and read through the aforementioned article. It was obvious from about 9/10 comments on the first half that things were as usual -dire ! Continued through the second half ( a few more comments) to its conclusion, with the obvious result. That said it all, or so I thought, until I listened to KJ's after match report, and it sounded like we played absolutely brilliant !!! If this is how he thinks we playing week in week out, then that's how its going to be for the rest of the season. Nothing much to look forward to !!
Will be pleased when this season is over now

I'm going on Saturday, it'll be my son's first game of the season and he's really looking forward to it - but we're only going because my best mate's son is one of the mascots. I can't pretend I'm looking forward to the match.

It'll be good to have some valuable Western time mind you!

Well at least you'll, and ya mate, will have reason to remember the match

Yeah it'll be ace to see him walk out onto the pitch.

My mate's parents have an ace photo of him aged 10 when he was a mascot stood next to Keith Downing. It was against Newcastle at Molineux - I reckon it was November 1991 - can anyone guess who Newcastle's captain was that day? Clue - he has a connection to Wolves.
