Blackburn 1 - Wolves 1 Verdict thread

A bit more detail now I'm back at a PC.

Ikeme: No chance with the goal, it was central but hit way too well for him to have a chance to react. Made one very good save round the post. Kicking is absolute shite.

Doherty: Remember that handful of games when he looked like he could actually defend? Forget that, he's gone back to normal now. He looks ok going forward (in a no skill, nearly always looking like he's about to fall over the ball way) but he doesn't stop anything in his defensive areas. Lets crosses come over constantly, lets his man cut inside at will and get a shot off, tragic.

Batth: In a terrible rut, has been since the Wigan error. Why on earth he's stood four yards off Gallagher for the goal I don't know. His booking was harsh (I'm not even convinced he was the one committing the foul) but having been carded to make that challenge in a nothing area was just crazy. Resorted to lamping the ball into the stand in the second half.

Hause: He'll have a game like Villa where he looks like he could be top drawer at this level and then another three to follow up where he's all over the place. Scuffs a lot of clearances and is incredibly hit and miss on the ball.

Borthwick-Jackson: He looks like a kid who hasn't played 20 first team games yet. There's bags of talent there but he really does have so much to learn, he switches off at the wrong times a hell of a lot.

Saiss: Probably the poorest game he's had in a Wolves shirt, never got going, didn't impose himself on the game, passing was very loose and I don't think he can have any complaints at being withdrawn. Arguably we can't afford to have a third of our midfield spending the game in our own half, there's no reason why he has to be so deep, especially against teams like this.

Coady: Tried hard, didn't really have much of an impact on the game. Instinctively pairing him and Edwards means you're going to be likely to struggle for creativity, there are some games where it might be a good idea but this wasn't one of them. If he's going to shoot from range multiple times a game then he needs to do some serious work on the training ground.

Edwards: Again the effort was there, again offered us very little in possession. Got his goal - fair play - but he missed about another four good chances, including one of his trademark 'miss the ball completely inside the six yard box' efforts. Long term nothing like good enough but he isn't anything like our biggest problem at the moment.

Costa: Looked like he could beat Mulgrew at will early on so of course we decided to get him to switch flanks after about half an hour. So often he gets past his full back and there's either 0 or 1 team mates in the box, what is the point of playing this system if you aren't going to take advantage of the width? First name on the teamsheet at the moment as frequently he's our only threat.

Wallace: Lightweight pap. I've seen him have a couple of good halves in games but nothing beyond that, there isn't much to suggest he's ever going to deliver enough at this level. Put in the same box as Saville, could possibly do a job for a relegation struggler in this league, would excel in League One, but we need much better and neither should be troubling our first team unless there's dramatic and significant improvement.

Bodvarsson: I find it hard to have too much of a go at him because the 'service' we're giving him reminds me of what we used to dish up to Iwan Roberts, just lamp it a foot above his head and hope for the best. We never get anyone around him in this system, the wide players don't link properly like a proper front three and the midfield are fucking miles away. That said, his movement is definitely nowhere near what it was early season and nor is his touch. Doesn't look like scoring at the moment.

Lonergan: Is never going to come for crosses so if he plays for a while, get used to that line of attack causing us problems. Also can't kick for toffee. But made a decent save to keep us in it.

Teixeira: We need to be giving him a run as a proper number 10, if he's getting close to Bod/Dicko in a 4-2-3-1 and picking up the ball in little pockets then it would really help our creativity. Not everything he does comes off but at a time when we're seriously struggling to score then he has to be on the pitch as much as possible.

Cavaleiro: Beggars belief that we can't find a place for him in the team, I really don't understand why. A decent run out, having a proper threat on both wings is another thing that would work wonders for us in an attacking sense.

Rob Edwards: If this was the audition then he flunked it. A starting XI that didn't seem to be based on merit and didn't ever look capable of creating enough here, tactics and approach that were straight out of the Ken Jan-May 2016 handbook. He should realise that even if he doesn't have a realistic shout of the main job (I don't think he does) then he's still going to be in a battle to keep the position he currently holds, I don't think Fosun are going to give a toss if the new manager decides he wants to get rid. That was not an advert for him to stay at the club come what may.

On the basis of territory and half chances created, added to Blackburn's general shiteness, we did just about deserve a point. But scraping a draw at Ewood Park was not what I had in mind two months ago and I doubt the Board will be satisfied either.

Cavaleiro – Another one who changed the game when he came, decent hit that keeper saved well towards the end. Would love to see him get a run of games and see what he can do.

Yeah, wouldnt it be pretty good if, oh i dont know... OUR FUCKING RECORD SIGNING ACTUALLY FUCKING PLAYED!

beggars belief.

To be fair, it's the first time I've seen him have a good game. Not seen many though.

From what I've seen, he wasn't very good against Burton, we hoofed the ball at him for an hour against Norwich then he looked good when we played him wide, three good sub appearances against Brentford, Villa and Blackburn, brought on against Barnsley and Leeds when we decided to play with no formation, that's about it.

I know full well he's a better option on the left of a front three than Oniangue or Wallace.

Villa, Leeds and Barnsley are the games I've seen and thought he was poor in all.

I have an extra interest as my tyre company sponsors him.

So for the first time in ages I type a massive match report everything dies and its lost, im summary it was shit and I am drinking heavily to relieve the pain.

Just watched the game after recording it due to other commitments.

What is the point in Jed Wallace? First name on the transfer list for me.
Hause, looks shaky on the ball and always seems to fall over when he clears the ball (watch how often he does this over the next few games, especially on drilled balls into the box)
The "foreigners" injected pace and some attacking threat, should have started tbh.
I though CBJ played well, one of the few players we have in our starting 11 who can control the ball - he does look too relaxed though.

We knew there would be nothing created from midfield and it showed, IMO Rob Edwards has seriously damaged his chance at becoming the manager after tonight's showing.

It's all a bit to dens vu depressing for me. After such early hope so many are clearly off the pace. Mid table mediocrity could be our best hope with this lot performing to this standard. Pissed off and off to bed. Feck em

I wanted Wallace to be given another chance. I was clearly wrong.

I think Coady is worth his place, and unfortunately it's hard to knock Dave Edwards when he works so hard, gees up the players, and gets some goals. I can't see the point of Saiss. Cav needs to start games.

Interesting also that Prince didn't even make the bench.

The players clearly worked hard for Rob Edwards, but I reckon a new manager will be announced before next Saturday.

Edwards is our best player at present = by some distance. Like it or not. Reminds me of some of our decent players from the 1970's in his attitude.
Watched the game with a committed Arsenal fan who felt we deserved to win on the balance of play
Either we have a decent team in there somewhere struggling to get out, or we are are a disparate, ill assorted bunch, who will be fortunate to finish in the top half of the division.
Looks like the latter at present.
Living on the South coast now I guess I'm looking forward to the games at Fulham, QPR, Reading, Brentford (huh!), and Bristol, but with the broadly the same amount of enthusiasm as last season.
Heard on Talksport today that Big Sam has ruled himself out as a possible manager, so I guess it looks like Pearson.

My team would be as in the pic. 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-1-1. So many options to change to with this set up. Id personally set up as i have done (4231).
People can slate Stearman all they like but our Captain and player of the season of 14/15 would be a better leader and teacher for Hause and Iorfa. At least until January when this obviously need addressing. Price or Coady. JDB or Dico

Hause on the right, when he can't even use his right foot?

Swap them round then. It was 6am.

Edwards was awful, although his air shot was a tremendous bit of skill. Not sure how Sky gave him man of the match.

That will do nicely. Unfortunaltely I think any new British manager is going to revert to "safety first" and will start with an Edwards Coady midfield, because they work hard. Because all our central midfield is capable of is harrying the oppostion we'll be on the back foot from the start, leaving the oppostion to have a good go at our 7 goals leaked in first 15 minutes defence.

I can see how Edwards got MOTM in as much as he was involved a lot in the second half and so therefore appeared busy, full of effort and did eventually get the goal. I'd argue that there is a difference between being effective and busy though. Based on that performance he doesn't 'deserve' to be dropped next week and won't be. I still would though as there isn't a place for him in the 4231 everyone seems to want unless it is as a holding midfielder.

The problem was, although he was 'busy' and got around the pitch a lot, every time he touched it he miss placed his pass, lost the ball or miss hit.
