Bellend commentators

Too much faff. #marklite

Anyway, it'll give me cause to moan at Lawrenson's waffling in this here thread.

commentator: "that was nearly a great ball"
Lawrenson "this is nearly a great game"

It's 15 minutes in ffs! Miserable twat.

I'm watching on a PC and there's a "watch with 5Live" option

THE greatest commentator of all time.

Are you still pissed from last night? :icon_lol:

Just getting my own back for the pre-season thread... (but yes, I probably am a bit - today at work has been a struggle!) :icon_lol:

Champion and McCoist have got better as the tournament has gone on. Good stuff in the Russia v Croatia game.

Absolutely agreed. I said it in the main thread. Ally is tremendous.

Can't say I really like or dislike him either way. Seems inoffensive enough but nothing more to me.

I've enjoyed mccoists local history, sights to see bits, made a change from the usual rubbish commentators spout

McCoist is a complete buffoon and a terrible football manager but he's always had decent chat. Always made for after dinner speaking/game shows etc. He's a decent commentator as long as you don't expect him to give any kind of meaningful insight.

Like a deluxe version of Dean Saunders really.

Catching up on the game from yesterday after being at a wedding.

Steve McManaman is going on this list. Some of it may be bias, but he has an insufferable jaded, sneery tone that he perhaps has picked up from everyone's favourite BBC pundit. Also seems, with all his tactical nous, not to be able to grasp the concept of players maybe occupying a different area of the pitch dependent on if the team is in possession or not.

Lawrenson-lite. Awful.

Yeah he was appalling - it didn't seem like he was enjoying the game whatsoever, he picked fault with anything and everything. Obviously, to be a decent commentator you need to pick up on the negative aspects of play but fucking hell, you'd have thought he was watching the Wolves v Blackburn game from a couple of seasons ago.

When you add the condescending, arrogant tone it just makes it worse.

He wasn't anywhere near as bad as Lawrenson though - at least he wasn't trying to make Dad jokes every 5 minutes.

He was a twat but think there has been a bit of an over reaction. All he was saying was that we were being a bit negative and deep, which we were. That’s not to say that was the wrong thing to do, but he thought we should be further up the pitch forcing the issue against 10 men. After settling in we did do this and that led to the second equaliser.

He also said he thought our passing was a bit slow at times. It was.

People get really defensive when someone talks negatively about your team, that’s understandable. But the over reaction to it (mainly the “I don’t like wolves”) has been a bit embarrassing.

When did he say 'I don't like Wolves'? Have I missed something there?

My issue with him is how bloody miserable and whiny he was throughout. He honestly sounded like he'd rather have been anywhere else - it wasn't like it was an uneventful snoozefest of a game.

He was dreadful. Birtles-esque.

I don't think there was really anything wrong in what McManaman was saying at all, the problem was the delivery more so than content, the way he was going on about it anyone would think there had been 5 minutes left in a cup final and the losing team still weren't trying to make anything happen to get back into the game rather than half an hour into the first game of the season with a newly promoted team looking a bit unsure of themselves.

I think many pundits miss the key point of why such and such is happening and why the coach wishes for such play rather than saying this is what I would prefer. Just because its being done different doesn't make it wrong.
