Beer

Funnily enough I got a couple of Innis and Gunn bottles today. A bit pricey considering they were 330ml bottles but worth it. Very nice indeed.

Getting in the beer for the week in Tesco, I saw a couple of Innis & Gunn boxes 'Special Release'....! Oak aged beer, Matured in rare oak barrels that previously contained 18 year old single malt whisky.

Yes, a little pricey but still cheaper than a little poxy glass of wine in a pub or a pint come to that!

Fantastic taste with a tiny background hint of whisky. Fairly strong too actually - up around 7.1% .Fucking gorgeous. A real, real ale experience!

13 Celcius (55 Fahrenheit), Arklo.
As for Banks's its the mild that is the classic beer. I've never been a fan of the bitter.

Missed this conversation last night. A little saddened by the lack of Langers love for Jennings. I always thought Snecklifter was a decent tot. Of course, the takeover may well have changed that I guess.

Burton Bridge Brewery is the pub to go in if you're ever in Burton and want real ale. They regularly have Golden Glow by the looks of it.

I'm up in Burton in a few weeks for our annual trip to a random lower league match so I will be heading straight there on your recommendation, Bear.

If you're down South, look out for beers from the Hogs Back Brewery. Their T.E.A. is particularly fine.

Screech Owl 5% IPA from Castle Rock Brewery is good if you can find it, based Nottingham way I think. Came across this by chance in the Cross at Kinver, they had a little beer festival on the go.

Hobson's Town Crier is a current favourite of mine, along with Hobnoblin*

(*like Hobgoblin, homebrewed with an extra hit of chocolate malt)

Enville Gothic if you like them a bit darker!

Town Crier is absolute nectar. Crooked Spire is also very nice.

Twisted Spire? Very nice indeed, I'm no beer monster but I'm always put off by the 3.8% offering.

Blue Chimay anyone?

Twisted Spire, sorry. Crooked Spire is a Chesterfield beer.

The Castle Rock brewery has a pub attached to it and is located conveniently close to the train station in Nottingham if you are ever over there for football or cricket. Spent a couple of hours in there after the first day of the test vs India last summer but have to say I'd had one or two too many to give a true judgement on its ales.

Cool. It's about a 20 min walk from Burton Albion's ground or a 5 min car ride.

I've only ever been in once myself as I'm not really much of a drinker but it was a very nice little establishment.

Missed this post earlier - Hogs Back is really nice.

My favourite beers from down south are Dark Star Hophead (mentioned earlier), Hop Back Summer Lightning and Arundel Gold.

There's one my brother's local in Horsham serves, but I can't remember it's name - I'll ask him tonight. It's amazing, but you won't find it outside Sussex unfortunately.

You're going down and down and down in my estimations as the ale expert.

Written in haste on my phone. And making me thirsty.

And as I said before, I'm a snob, not an expert.

Another good beer local to me is Shere Drop from the Shere Brewery. Similarly, you don't find it outside of Surrey. In fact I don't think I've seen it much outside of the tiny village of Shere. (Setting, incidentally, for the formulaic romcom The Holiday, with K. Winslet and C. Diaz.)

You want to watch those fat fingers adding an s in where it shouldn't.

Never heard of that one - will look out for it! Ta.

Edit: the beer, not the film.

Excellent, may have to organise an outing to Nottingham very soon...
