Barnsley v Wolves: Matchday Thread

Shows how spoilt we’ve been when draws feel like defeats.

Just got in for the 3 or 4 mins added on!
Seems that we're putting together a string of games where we are winning ugly with 1 or 2 games of great power and promise in between.
Still, lots of points clear at the top and another clean sheet means we shouldn't whinge. Too much anyway.
Just feels like a bit of an anti climax after looking forward to it for a whole week.

Just seen jd's response below mine. Perfect.

Not a great game Jota with the best 2 chances, one hitting the bar from nothing the other a cross that seemed a tap in on first viewing will be interesting to see on the highlights. Barnsley celebrating like a win, they did well to keep us out in fairness. Mir had a few nice touches looking forward to seeing more of him at Swansea.

An away point is always welcome, but we do seem to have misplaced our scoring boots recently.

I agree Frank, but I don't think it is a huge problem just yet. We are still a mile clear.

Have we? 2 at Millwall, 2 at Bristol & 3 v Brentford before today in the League. We misplaced them today though...

Sunderland, Swansea and now Barnsley. I don't think it is a great problem, and one that will soon be rectified. but maybe teams are setting up a lot more defensively against us.

Most of us would've taken a draw at Bristol and a win here.

No big deal. We could still be playing now and a well placed mannequin would keep us out. Just one of those days. I'll do a better write up later when I get in.

No maybe about it. Sunderland set a new way of playing defensive. Forest will do the same next week as will 90% of teams we face from now until May.

You make it sound like 3 games in a row - don’t think there’s much of an issue - last league game we scored 3, 2 in the 2 before that.

We were pedestrian first half, stepped it up second. I thought a goal was only a matter of time, but it didn't come due to a combination of poor final balls and finishing. Their keeper didn't make a save of note, which is disappointing, but neither did Ruddy. I might have just been to the wrong games, but whenever I've seen Costa he looks like he's playing with the handbrake on, doesn't go at players like he used to, although be was starting to come into the game when subbed off. Mir doesn't have the touch of Bonatini, but looks more of a goal threat, the way teams are now setting up against us and will continue to do so until at least the last month of the season I think he'll be the more useful of the two.

We should have won that. Jota's miss from 2 yards was really poor.

Too many long balls.
Watched a stream of the game and we did not put them to bed

Teams have been setting up defensively against us since about September to be honest. Much good its done them.

I thought we were brilliant in the 2nd half.

Jota so unlucky to hit the bar and then stretching for the other chance from 2 yards.

Mir gives us options and holds the ball up well.

Neves and Saiss were ace, as were the back 3

Much better second half. Inclined to agree that Costa isn't as direct as last year and this is reflected in his lack of goals and assists. We looked a different team when Cavaleiro came on, like against Brentford, and I think he did enough to deserve a starting place vs Forest.

Mir looked useful when he came on. Put in a lovely cross that Cav could done better from and looks comfortable on the ball.

As for our defence: imperious once again. Boly is embarrassingly good for this level and Bennett dealt with everything thrown at him with assurance. 20 clean sheets at this point is ridiculous, quite frankly.

On another day we'd have won 3-0. Never mind, onto Forest.

Boly was epic my MOTM. Hope Neves is OK.

Neves had cramp so no worries there
