He did which is why I find this an odd move when we have more pressing issues in other areas, i.e. up front and LB. Also our wide berths are arguably taken by our 2 best players.
He's a decent enough player though so good luck to him.
Our two best players are out wide, but we really don't have much depth there. Mason and Saville are currently competing for second-choice on the left, which really isn't good enough, even if this season is now about consolidation and not much else.
We're overstocked on the wings right now, but with dross (Wallace, Henry) or with players who won't be here much longer (Teixeira), or with players who have had serious injuries but who may not recapture their pre-injury form (Graham, Zyro).
Lambert seems to like having the two wide players swap sides frequently, back and forth, during matches, and also tells the number 10 to do so as well (more Enobakhare than Mason, but they both to it to an extent). Graham can only play on the left, and Mason is most effective in the middle, but otherwise it makes sense to find a player who fits the Cavaleiro-Costa-Enobakhare-Ronan-Zyro style, and allow us to field a number of different combinations depending on form and injury without sacrificing tactical cohesion. And if he's shit, doesn't matter, he goes back in the summer and we can find someone else.
The question then becomes whether we can find a better striker than Dicko or Bodvarsson, but of a similar style - holding the ball up, stretching defenders, fast and strong, as much a creator as a goalscorer - in this window, or wait until the summer. I imagine we'll wait, as strikers in particular demand outrageous fees in January.
