Andreas Weimann - Welcome to Molineux

He did which is why I find this an odd move when we have more pressing issues in other areas, i.e. up front and LB. Also our wide berths are arguably taken by our 2 best players.

He's a decent enough player though so good luck to him.

Our two best players are out wide, but we really don't have much depth there. Mason and Saville are currently competing for second-choice on the left, which really isn't good enough, even if this season is now about consolidation and not much else.

We're overstocked on the wings right now, but with dross (Wallace, Henry) or with players who won't be here much longer (Teixeira), or with players who have had serious injuries but who may not recapture their pre-injury form (Graham, Zyro).

Lambert seems to like having the two wide players swap sides frequently, back and forth, during matches, and also tells the number 10 to do so as well (more Enobakhare than Mason, but they both to it to an extent). Graham can only play on the left, and Mason is most effective in the middle, but otherwise it makes sense to find a player who fits the Cavaleiro-Costa-Enobakhare-Ronan-Zyro style, and allow us to field a number of different combinations depending on form and injury without sacrificing tactical cohesion. And if he's shit, doesn't matter, he goes back in the summer and we can find someone else.

The question then becomes whether we can find a better striker than Dicko or Bodvarsson, but of a similar style - holding the ball up, stretching defenders, fast and strong, as much a creator as a goalscorer - in this window, or wait until the summer. I imagine we'll wait, as strikers in particular demand outrageous fees in January.

Had a quick scan of Derby's forum- they are all saying the same thing, never given a real chance. Seems like they are sad to see him go- bodes well.

i think this signing improves us, could be wrong but i think this well help us rotate the squad abit more up top and hopefully he can score some goals.

Pleased with this a good signing and I presume a loan with a fee agreed? Whilst we do have other positions that are in greater need of improvement this will strengthen us. The impression I get is PL wants a fluid front 3 so I could see Cav being dropped to accommodate no chance Costa will be dropped.

i personally think Cav will be off come the end of the season, i dont rate him tho too much he constantly beats his man and then goes backwards to take him on again and loses the ball and his crossing is rubbish too.

He won't.

Costa is the one who will be off. We won't be able to tempt him to stay.

maybe so, but i think we will do everything to keep him, and if he sees we have a real chance next year he might be tempted and he looks interested unlike Cav body language sometimes.

I think he's more of a #10 than a wide-man

It gives us some genuine options now and gives us (and him) to see if he's good enough. Good on the ball, direct, likes to run at people - i'm not sure about his passing though

Does this also mean PL knows Super Dave isn't the right option (or even an option) at #10?

Just on the Costa thing, I think it all depends how strongly we finish the season he is really enjoying his football at the moment and money is not really a problem for us so lets not write him off. I know Cav divides opinion but I really think in parts he has been excellent for us, he is still finding his feet and I think will be a massive player for us.

Also don't agree with those saying his delivery is poor, his decision making is his weakest attribute IMO along with his defensive work (he makes Sako's tackling look good!) but these are things that can be coached.

Weimann will provide genuine competition for both Cav & Costa and possibly Mason/Bright, I am not so sure he would replace Dicko or Bod up top.

I think Cav will be off if Mendes finds a suitable buyer for him. I can't see him being thrilled at the prospect of another season in the English 2nd tier.

Welcome to Wolves Andy.

I remember being really jealous when Derby first signed him so I'm happy with this. He's not obviously not been great there but also doesn't seem to have been given much of a chance in a very inconsistent team. Versatile, decent experience, has proven himself at a higher level... Nothing to really complain about here apart from his current poor form for Derby County, hopefully reuniting with Lambert will help him get back to his best.

Of the 5 Portuguese we signed you can be pretty sure 4 won't be here next season. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Cav wanted out too.

Strikes me as a pretty humble guy tbh, I don't think he'd be the type to kick up a fuss as long as he's getting game time and we continue to improve as a team under Lambert. If he does get a move we'd be looking to recoup our £7M and the only type of place he's going to end up in at that price is a footballing backwater like China or a semi decent Russian/Turkish team and he's only just turned 23 (a fact some Wolves fans are very keen to overlook when slating the poor guy). A little too early to be effectively writing your career off by moving out there.

Welcome to Wolves Andy, good signing who I believe will do well for us.

Strange as other Derby fora are lamenting him going and not being given a chance.

Hmmm
