I think that the world cup is far too long. It is going to take about five weeks to play the pool games. Seven weeks in total for the tournament is too long.

Agree with this - would make more sense for 4 smaller pools then knockout.

Seed the draw and you are likely to get the same last eight anyway

I agree the icc trophy is better tournament IMO, shorter and proper quality sides playing each other.

So it all starts tonight with New Zealand v Sri Lanka followed by England v Australia.

Yep. Should be two decent games to get things going. Totally agree about the length of the tournament though. The West Indies tournament when Bob Woolmer died was ridiculously over-long, and I don't think the cricket authorities have learned from that. There will be plenty of one-sided matches in this first round, and interest is going to be really focused on when the big eight play each other.

It's really more that there are too many games of absolutely zero consequence. It almost certainly won't matter how we do against Australia, New Zealand or Sri Lanka. It doesn't even really affect who we get in the quarter finals.

First quarter final is being played on 18 March. Over a month until the competition proper starts.

Really surprised to see McCullum get out there. Herath got it to stick in the wicket just enough that he caught it off the toe of the bat and then didn't clear the fielder.
