The Road to World Cup 2026 and UEFA Nations League

Very dominant performance second half, Ireland were just putrid even with the full quota on the field their aim was to just stay in the game with zero intent on causing any problems for England.

San Marino win again this evening, 3-1 away to Liechtenstein (first time they've ever scored 3) and have been promoted in the Nations League
They’ve now won more games this season than Wolves…

Up the ‘rino!

World Cup qualifying groups draw seedings:

Pot 1: Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Croatia, England, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria.

Pot 2: Ukraine, Turkey, Sweden, Wales, Hungary, Serbia, Poland, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Norway.

Pot 3: Scotland, Slovenia, Republic of Ireland, Albania, North Macedonia, Georgia, Finland, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Israel.

Pot 4: Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Belarus, Kosovo, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Lithuania.

Pot 5: Moldova, Malta, Andorra, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, San Marino.

Scotland have been done dirty a bit there, were in Nations League A so had much harder games in this cycle, qualified for Euro 2024 unlike Greece, Sweden or Norway, but ended up seeded below them.

Apparently England are very likely to have one of the 5 team groups so Tuchel's first game in March will be a qualifier rather than a friendly.

We're damn lucky to be seeded in Pot 3 . There are some teams in Pot 4 that I wouldn't be one bit confident of beating . We are improving , but it's slow and you need a lot of patience .

I’m assuming those involved in nation league play offs will be in groups of 4 and those not will be in groups of 5?

Scotland to face Greece in the Nations League A/B Play off

Ireland to face Bulgaria in the B/C Play off

Bulgaria - how very interesting .

Always remember Johnny Giles saying years ago about how he hated playing East European teams in important International matches away from home , as the referees would never give you anything during a match . All fouls against you were just waved on and penalties against you for harmless stuff were commonplace if the match was tight .
It was generally accepted that the referees in question has a visitor or two to their hotel room the night before........

I don't know if i'm getting extra senile or what, but are england still in the Euros, and if so who do they play next.
Don't see them anywhere in the draw.

The Euros isn't until 2028 and qualification won't start for it until September 2026.

Our World Cup qualifiers will start in March 2025.

We won our Nations League group and got promoted to League A. That's done now. We aren't in the final stages as you needed to be in League A to be involved, we got relegated in the last cycle (that run that included our 0-4 loss at Molineux to Hungary).
