If it's not a pass, surely it's a shot or a clearance? In my mind, if you're kicking the ball to another player, it's pass.

A clearance can be a pass though by that definition. For me it's a stand alone category as is a dribble which also doesn't fit into yours

If it gets to the player its aimed at, it's a pass surely, it's a long pass.

A long pass would a pass aimed at a player (like the kind Neves used to do). A long ball would be a launch in the rough direction of your player who probably has to compete with a defender to win it

For me a clearance is just hoofing it forward with no obvious target, just getting it out of a danger area. Any ball that is kicked towards another player that gets there is a pass.
I suspect that these definitions are very personal views and there's no right or wrong answer.
