That was kinda the gist of the article, worth a read if you have the Times. Point which was being made was that in the US there are much fewer identifying traits which make a culture war more vicious as people are more polarised.Minimal labels like this don't define anyone - I'm a mix of bits from many none of which is that helpful.
I guess you can in the sense of having the innate ability to earn what you've got - if you've got a lot.Can you be privileged if you've earnt what you've got ?
But surely privilege must be bestowed on youI guess you can in the sense of having the innate ability to earn what you've got - if you've got a lot.
Means they're well off I guess. Can you be privileged if you've earnt what you've got ?
Depends on how we’re defining “earnt”.Can you be privileged if you've earnt what you've got ?
Being a white, hetrosexual male born into a lower middle class background is a position of privilege. Whatever i have achieved I haven't had to overcome the barriers that would have been in the way if I wasn't those thingsBut surely privilege must be bestowed on you

The definition is a special right, advantage, or immunity for a particular person. I believe that if you are born with (i.e. have bestowed upon you through no effort of your own) above-average intelligence, talent or some other ability that allows you to achieve a well-paid position (in extremis, think Leo Messi, Lennon/McCartney), then you could call that a privilege. Or just lucky. I think the distinction I'm making here is that it's possible to be privileged without coming from a privileged background. But surely privilege must be bestowed on you
I don’t think any of this is right. The definition is a special right, advantage, or immunity for a particular person. It's an advantage.I don’t think any of this is right.
Privilege is a social scale not an ability scale isn’t it?
