I saw Stanley play for Wolves at Chasetown in a pre season friendly. Bully also played as it was only up the road and fancied it

Just looked it up it was 01/08/89. It was Colin Taylor who I think also played who was seen as the great hope of the time rather than Collymore. Stanley got binned a few months later which urban myth suggests was for none football reasons, although I have no idea if it were true.

Being light fingered in the dressing room was the rumour. I have no idea if that was true but seemed to be the narrative going round.

Always thought we should have chucked our transfer budget at Collymore when he was at Southend, would have been immense for us at the time

He joined Forest in 1993. We did start to splash the cash then but we got Thomas, Kelly and Keen for about the same that summer as he cost on his own (Shirtliff a few months later too), and we desperately needed to add numbers AND quality to the squad, one player wouldn't have been enough.

Also Forest were a bigger draw than us at the time. It was only two years since they'd made the FA Cup final and were arguably favourites against Spurs to win, won the League Cup in 1989 and 1990 too, they just completely nosedived in Cloughie's final year.

He joined Forest in 1993. We did start to splash the cash then but we got Thomas, Kelly and Keen for about the same that summer as he cost on his own (Shirtliff a few months later too), and we desperately needed to add numbers AND quality to the squad, one player wouldn't have been enough.

Also Forest were a bigger draw than us at the time. It was only two years since they'd made the FA Cup final and were arguably favourites against Spurs to win, won the League Cup in 1989 and 1990 too, they just completely nosedived in Cloughie's final year.

That was October 1994 after they'd gone up (he was great for 20 minutes then went off injured)

Scored against us in November 1993 at Molineux in a 1-1 draw. In the middle of an 11 game unbeaten run for us. Sounds great until you notice we only won 3 of them...

I'm trying to find the highlights, there were a few times in that era when we looked so far behind the Premier League, that game, the Crystal Palace 4-1 at home where every goal was a screamer, and Spurs at home when Rosenthal (!) tore us a new one.

But then obviously we did alright at times too, Ipswich away, Leicester at home, Sheff Wed at home, Cov at home (Venus and Ferguson with a genuinely brilliant goal, which i'm sure you enjoyed )

Kevin Keen doesnt get much love in that spending spree. I absolutely loved Keen, our Juan Mata back in the day.

Forest ripped us while Collymore was on the pitch in 1994 but we came back well. 2-0 down to 2-2 and we were all over them. Then Pearce got a deflected free kick right near the end.

I remember watching a few games of Southend on ITV and he was immense. Of those 3 transfers Thomas got crocked, Kelly wouldn't have been needed only Keen added something else, (and then was bizzarly sold the season after)

Forest would have been the bigger draw but who knows, I think we would have been a different animal had we somehow managed to get him, mind you same goes if Thomas stayed fit.

Had a good record for us even though we never ever played him where he was supposed to go. Was not a left winger but we put him there.

Taylor just didn't fancy him at all. Ridiculous that we sold him at a fair loss for no reason.

I did too, 9 goals in 50 games from midfield, i hadn't seen the like before. Really good footballer, and obviously had a unique style with how bow legged he was! One of the many footballing midfielders that Taylor quickly got rid of, quite how we bought him for 600k, he had a good season and then we sold him for 300k i'll never know, awful business.

Yeah I liked Keen, good solid pro and a half decent player.
