Wolves 1 Reading 2 - Verdict Thread

To be clear I didn't mean to imply that we should be sacking him, I was just curious as to the general feeling about it.

Though I have to say this whole idea of clubs having a "natural level" doesn't make much sense to me.

Yeah it's bullshit mate. It's like they've always been in that position or that's where they usually finish so should always finish there. I think that's what a lot are thinking about us this season, just come up from league 1 so 7/8th is ok when in reality the play-offs are more than attainable. In my opinion we have the players to be in the top 6 positions but have come unstuck thanks to a poor plan b and poor subs, a change of style from last season and average recruitment. Now i'm not going to start calling for Jackett's head but in my opinion he's getting it massively wrong and is still unsure of his best 11 and i seriously do question whether he could take us to the next level.

He says all the right things after the game and tells it exactly like it is which is refreshing but he needs to act on that and adapt to what we need, of course if he doesn't do that then his position will be called into question. I don't think he's anywhere close to being sacked or do i think Wolves are even thinking about it but me personally i always look at whoever is at the club and whether i think they can make the step up whether that be a player or manager and right now as i've said i'm really not sure he can. Obviously i'd love to be proved massively wrong and we start looking like the side we should from now or next season we really kick on but only time will tell.

I agree with everything you've said on this thread Slink. Spot on observations.

I'm happy with mid table tbh,Youngish team, newly promoted etc etc, this season in my opinion was always about consolidation, seeing the team we've gots abilities, who knows, but the scouting system could be looking ahead a season or two,for an assault on the prem.if we get promoted and get slaughtered every week in the premiership, the same people moaning on here about sacking the manager,no ambition,no money, would be moaning a lot louder about getting beaten every week

Part of the reason people are so concerned about where we are now, is because of the flying start to the season we enjoyed. If we'd endured our November back in August/September, most of us would be overjoyed to be higher mid-table now. We've just come up from League one. We have a policy of not over-extending financially. We're bringing through the youth with many more waiting in the wings. We have a manager who says it how it is tempered with not undermining his players in the press. No way would I be looking for another boss at least until next Christmas and only then if we are moving backwards despite suitable investment. The cup, for me, remains half full.

This talk of Mick reminds me he had a thing with choosing fullbacks as well - he tended to pick one attacking fullback on one side, and then a more defensive one on the other. So, Zubar and Elokobi, or Foley and Ward. Maybe there's a similar thinking behind yesterday's choices? Doherty's seen by Jackett as the most attacking fullback in the squad, and so to balance out his propensity for bombing forward we got Hause on the opposite side to balance it out.

Very similar to last two home games. There was no pace and tempo.

Why did Iorfa and Golbourne not start if on bench ?. If not fit then it shows how small our squad is if they have to be on bench. Sorry , forgot we only have 21 players two of which are injured and the other on loan !!! So at the moment if you are fit u r in the matchday 18 !!!

The last three home games have proved the following:

1) RVLP apart from cross for the goal he offered very little running up blind alleys ans always choosing the wrong option

2) Price is better than Evans

3) Dicko must start when fit and Afobe should then play instead of Edwards

Major problem is our slow tempo

Could Afobe do the number ten role?

Good feet, good brain, creates space..

My biggest concern is not losing the game yesterday but more that in the last three home games we have struggled to create goal scoring chances. So is Kenny Jackett learning from his mistakes or are the players not able to execute his instructions to make his game plan work.
If there is no wish to play football through the final central third of the pitch does Kenny think we can create enough chances through flank play?
Pity the press don't ask the coach questions about his game plan and what he himself is asking from his players to achieve a few victories.
His continued support for Dave Edwards could see a fair proportion of the fanbase turn against a perceived lack of tactical awareness.

Just seen the goals on TFLS.

For the first goal Hause gets caught under the long ball and doesn't get enough distance on the clearing header but both Stearman and Batth go towards Cox leaving acres of space behind them for Pogrebnyak to run into. Really sloppy stuff, clearly hadn't woken up yet.

Afobe's goal is a cracking header, beats his man to the front post and powers it into the bottom corner. Good work from van La Parra to create a yard of space vs two defenders and he whips in a delightful cross.

For the winner Matt Doherty does absolutely nothing to stop the initial cross coming in, just stands 5 yards off him with his arms behind his back. It's gutless defending, he's afraid of getting any closer because he's isolated and knows he'll be beaten on the outside. Once the cross isn't dealt with it's laid back to Williams who finishes in off the post.

Really poor from our POV for both goals. We've gone from conceding 2 in 7 to conceding 4 in 2 and defending like idiots again.

Doherty was to blame for their first too. If you rewatch it, he doesn't track his man who then goes on to score. Really poor.

Thought the Pole did well, although on another forum he's getting slated.

Apart from that there's very little positive to take from the game. Afobe wasn't involved, or didn't get any service depending on your POV, but took his goal very well.

Having seeing the 2nd goal again, as I thought at the time we basically let the guy score. McDonald in particular is so slow to get to him and then turns his back on the shot. Its a great finish but the 2 closest to the ball make very little effort to get in the way of the shot.

I thought Kusack was at fault for the first goal, he should be getting down to that and not getting beaten at his near post. Imo Ikeme would have saved it.

Yeah, he's really slow to get out and confront the player running onto the lobbed pass, and he's equally slow getting down to try save the shot. I suppose he wasn't fully focused as it was so early on, but he'll need to improve on stuff like that. His save to tip the free over the bar was good, it cAme right at him but he reacted well

Not at fault for me. And yeah, the save from the free kick, sit right behind it and it moved all over the place.

On my jollies, so didn't see the game nor too many reports. What I have seen is KJ for the 4th match running talking about a lack of tempo. At some point he has to stop speaking like he's unconnected to this and take accountability for it. Perhaps time to drop McDonald as he is our playmaker and more responsible than anyone for dictating the tempo of our play?
