Wolves 1-2 QPR: The Verdict

Feel a bit sorry for Pricey to be honest, MOM by a country mile but their first goal was down to him,

Feel sorry for Dicko too, it's not that long ago that while John Dadi was in the team the fans were singing, 'Nouha, Nouha, ' Nouha' etc, that's football I suppose.

Didn't see the game but the highlights and the stats suggested we were the better team and should have won. Their first goal looked a decent finish although the LB was nowhere to be seen and Baath could have anticipated the strikers intentions better. Their second was shocking, amaturish defending which must be stopped.

On another day we win that game easily. There are positives to take and we already knew the negatives this game highlighted

QPR must be the only side that have come for a 0-0 and end up scoring twice. We weren't good enough going forward and definitely aren't good enough at the back, we signed 13 in the summer and the worrying thing is that we need another 7 or 8. In the first 20 we were quite decent and you can see what Lambert wants but the players just aren't good enough.

Lambert's post match comments are akin to Dean Saunders.

It's not over the top at all. We need a whole new back 5, we need a striker, we need at least one winger to cover for Costa and Cav as we have no one else that's good enough to play there, we need a midfielder that can create in the final third. I'm not sure most of the new players are going to get a look in again beyond Costa and Cav so realistically we do need that many players. I know it's not going to happen but that's the reality of the situation.

My twopenneth. We were not "absolutely brilliant" as per our manager, but we weren't booed off the pitch bad as per the South Bank. Final ball was lacking too often, mainly from Cav who needs to bloody whip it in first time for a change. Bright wasn't as lively as he was at Forest and seemed to lacks bit of confidence to run at them. His one on one should have been converted, he hit it down the middle and made it a relatively easy save. WM and I understand the web commentary said he had a good game, I didn't think so personally and would take him out for a game or two, but definitely bring him back

Coady was surprisingly decent defensively at right back, but his distribution was shocking. Dicko in the first half was back to his best in terms of his pressing and running into channels, but boy he needs a goal, in the end he was looking for it too much. Replaced by Bod, who still looks shot, some of his control was awful.

Bit of a Curate's egg of a performance from Price, some of his forward play and passing was the best I've seen from him, some lovely clipped passes over the top or out wide, but he got a yellow card in the same needless way he did at Forest in an identical area of the pitch. Without that yellow he puts in a challenge on the winger for their goal and stops the attack one way or another. Not a dig as such as I'd need to see it again, but Christ knows where Doherty was for that.

Costa and Edwards weren't at their best, but another assist and another goal for them so can't really criticise

Which leads me on to our captain, that must be 15 goals now this season that he is either completely culpable for or could have done better - 4 in the last few days. For the first, as I have said Price should be cutting out the cross, but his man who isn't exactly mobile got the run to the near post on him and finished well. For the second, Stearman may have been fouled, but you don't stop and bleeding appeal and then miss your tackle leaving a tap in. I cannot remember a player who has directly cost us as many goals in a season. He's not the worst defender we've ever had, but pretty much every mistake costs us at the moment. He needs taking out and now.

Personally I think we're ok going forward - the problem is our defenders (mainly batth and Doherty) make individual errors most weeks and give away goals - plus ikeme rarely has a great game. How many times has the opposition keeper made
Several great saves to keep them in it compared to ikeme!

If we got a centre back, left back and a keeper with a bit of quality and a lot of communication, I think we'd be in decent shape...

Lambert thought we were brilliant I can't explain how bad some of our defending was. Some good points though the football leading up to the equaliser and onwards was good Price pinging the ball around for fun and Costa always looked dangerous.

I'll do a match report later on but it almost writes itself.

Bright had a wonderful chance at nil nil if he scores I think it's a different game.

QPR were woeful time wasting pretty much from kick off blatantly coming for a draw but sneaking the win.

I am sick of taking positives. I just want to win win win

Not with those defenders Frank, we might have to score 6.

You think we’re ok going forward, yet we haven’t got anyone who can play the lone striker role? Dicko barely troubled QPR today and we know Bod isn’t the answer. New CHs and a striker please, preferably by end of the first week of the window.

We've scored 11 goals in the last 5 games, that's not bad at all. At the same time, we've conceded 10, a good proportion of which shouldn't have happened, so yes it's the defence that's the issue rather than going forwards...

Paul Lambert thought we were brilliant but maybe he means he thinks he is getting the best he can out of this group of players, clutching at straws maybe?

QPR were dire, timewasting from the off and really look like they will be in trouble, which makes losing to them even worse.

We started the game very flat and lackluster moments of excitement from each wing but too often Cav in particular not sending in the cross when it is needed. Price got himself into the book for a lunging challenge that just wasn't needed and I can't help but think that played a part in their first goal. The first QPR goal started from a sloppy ball from Price then no real challenge on the run and an out of position Doherty not doing his job as normal. The defending for both goals was poor but we reacted quickly and finally got some ummph into our game. Price in particular just seemed to take the game by the scruff of the neck and start dictating play from midfield (from this moment on this is as good as I have seen Price play) you could see the obvious pattern of play, spreading the ball out wide and looking to get balls in the box (often with noone to attack but there we go) finally Mr Anonymous Dave Edwards popped up and its 1-1.

If you had told me at this point we would lose I wouldn't have believed it, QPR were sitting very deep and really offered very little, we should be hammering shit like this. Alas some of the worst defending, even worse than normal lead to a toe poke and another loss.

I think the fact that QPR sat back highlighted the fact we lack craft, in an open game we will do ok but this type of game we will need a little bit more and of course someone that can hit a cow (forget the ass anywhere will do)

Ikeme 5 - Nothing to do for most of the game but dithered for the 2nd goal.
Doherty 4 - Classic Doc, good going forward and always an outlet, cant defend for shit. Looked hurt at the end so I wonder if he will miss Sheff Weds?
Batth 3 - Looks shot of confidence and a disaster waiting to happen, needs replacing asap.
Stears 5 - Did better than Batth and can play a bit of football, which is nice. One moment where he took the piss in our box but got away with it. Should do a lot better for the 2nd goal.
Coady 5 - Solid if unspectacular with not much of a challenge tried to get forward to support, even though he is makeshift he is a better fullback than Doc from what I have seen.
Price 7 MOTM - grew into the game but needlessly booked, after their goal he was awesome for the rest of the game with a wonderful range of passing in all directions.
Edwards 5 - Would get a 1 or 2 for contribution but scored a goal so I will give him 5, runs around a lot but offers little (no surprise there)
Bright 6 - Frustrating, seems to lose the ball a lot but there are some little signs of magic, this boy really has something. The best chance of the first half came to him from a lovely 1-2 with Dicko he should score.
Cav 6 - Not his best game but still always looks a threat, his decision making needs working on and should be looking to cross earlier.
Costa 7 - That first touch pfff, such a talent and was fed by Price countless times, we need someone (not Dave) getting on the end of those crosses.
Dicko 5 - Just doesn't look a threat at the moment, works hard and linked well with Bright in the 1st half but I don't see a goal coming any time soon. Not all his fault the service to him was mostly in the air.

Subs,

Neither Mason nor Bod really did much in the time they were on, I expect they will start against Sheff Weds.

If we're talking fantasy then you're absolutely right, but in the real world, the best we can hope for is a CB, a FB (hopefully 2) and a striker. I actually think we can be OK in midfield till the summer if what we have is used properly, Saiss, Price, Edwards are good enough for now, I'd like to see Ronan more involved too

Myth or not we fucked up again against the worst team in the division.

Jesus wept that defending from Stears for their winner...

Gets his body in front and then kicks the ball off his own foot back into the strikers path.
