Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

We need some proper communication from the club now. It has patently long gone past the point of quite simply not being good enough. QPR are a great example above of doing what Thelwell and KJ have been talking us up so well in. Either the targets arent there, or the money isnt - or both, either way we need something to give.

That's not going to happen though is it.

They're just treading water at the moment and despite the supposed knowledge and state of the art resources behind the scenes what is being putting out on the pitch is unacceptable. I have grave concerns how players who are nothing more than mid-championship quality at best were given extended contracts. Nothing will set on a good course until there are changes in all departments and KJ shouldn't be first. If Morgan plans to stay on he has to make these changes. His greatest failure is lack of insight. He subscribes to the 'hot air' theory of football custodianship.

There are plenty of darts to chuck at the club at the moment, putting up QPR as an example of how to run a club is not one of them. Blind pigs and acorns.

Maybe the not playing of some of the most recent signings is because, they weren't the signings that Kenny wanted or he thinks he needed.

Only last week he reiterated that the club wouldn't sign a player he didn't want. He's got no need to come out with that unless that's the way it is.

Who knows who is directly at fault and maybe its a combination of all of them.
What QPR's selling of Austin and replacing him in 48 hours makes the people in charge at our club look like a bunch of total amateurs.

Not to replace Sako with a competent LW knowing he was going to leave 12 months before he did and not replacing Afobe after knowing he was desperate to leave is simply NEGLIGANT

I WILL NEVER STOP ATTENDING MATCHES BUT I AM BECOMING ASHAMED TO SUPPORT THIS ONCE GREAT CLUB !!! WE ARE BECOMING A JOKE

That is because the Wolves way, is to play a player out of position, so we don't need to spend money.

I thought people stopped believing what he said ages ago? I supported Kenny through his darkest moments, but I don't believe anything he says.

Would he know all that though without "tapping up" on the wages. On the fee, wouldn't the club have to make an official approach to see if the player is available and if so, how much. My guess on Thelwell's role will be to include a estimate on the value (or even what he thinks he is worth in the current market).

They tend to get this information unofficially from the agent and there's plenty of ways of getting that info and keeping it quiet from the club in question, reserve games provide ample opportunity for managers to have a chat to agents and vie versa. There are some scouting set ups that actually follow players to see what they are like off the pitch! Bizarro stuff.

Whatever it is, there isn't just 1 person responsible for our current poor record in the Transfer Market and you have to hope that the new owners sweep away all of them and starts again.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

It's called Total Percentage Football where even correctly positioned players can't keep a shape for a percentage of the time.

I have no idea, he talks absolute bollocks most of the time these days but he has no need to say the club wouldn't sign anyone he didn't want as it makes him look stupid when he doesn't play most of them.

I gave up believing anything anyone said at the club ages ago. I tend to judge them by what they do, or more often what they don't do!

Most football managers answers are open-ended and that leads to various interpretations of their thoughts depending on whether we win or lose.

Indeed. They have a rich moneybags owner to back them, and selling Charlie Austin and replacing him with the League One top scorer isn't exactly rocket science...

No but they acted and acted quickly. We are still talking about Sako and he left a long while ago.Thats what irks.

We are not a crap side because Sako left. We were not a fantastic side with Sako. That cannot be understated.

Of course, but we just don't have the financial outlay to replace players of his ilk. We have to take risks that the likes of Byrne or Wallace will come good.

Or hope Edwards develops into a decent player...

£2m on Coady + £1.2m on Byrne and £275K on Wallace (£3.5m) and you don't think they could've got a good replacement for Sako with that?

Regardless, we didn't we pissed most of it up the wall but it is disingenuous to think we didn't have the financial outlay to replace Sako. Also QPR spent less than the £4m they sold Charlie Austin for, but we haven't spent any of the reported £9m on a replacement for Afobe, or indeed any squad strengthening. It doesn't look great does it?

A strange statement. For all the trials and tribulations met during my 50+ years of following the Wolves, I have never been ashamed to support this STILL great club (even to the misguided violent show of support favoured a few years back). I cannot understand this 'ashamed' or 'embarassed' sentiment whatsoever. You support the club and be honoured to do so through thick or thin or you don't.
