I carry 12, 12 cask strength, 15, and Lustau in my store. 12 and cask strength were both very popular around 5 years ago but sales dropped off ( I think a bad batch). Now we sell 1 or 2 bottles of each per year.

Bushmills and Proper 12 do sell this year, but over 90% of all Irish whiskey we sell is Jameson.
 
Tried a side by side with the 12 cask strength and the Lustau last night. The Lustau is a lovely whiskey but it just doesn't stand up to the 12CS in a head to head. The extra 10% abv makes it so well rounded and full bodied and the Single Pot Still character really shines through. I think a fairer comparison would be Redbreast Lustau Vs Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton or Chateau Montelena.
 
Tomatin Cask Strength (57.5%). Gorgeous whisky.

Also just cracked a Blue Spot. 7 ye old Cask strength Single Pot Still Irish whiskey from Midleton. Seriously good.

My uncle lived and worked on the Tomatin distillery for over 20years. Loved it. Think the rent was a nominal fee of £5 a week, free bottle as a bonus every month.
The night before my wedding last year,they gifted me a bottle. I stayed up drinking it with my aunties and reminiscing. Beautiful whiskey, I couldn't leave it alone
 
Had some seriously good whisky for Burns night last night. Entire flight in order: Allt-A-Bhainne 23 yr old (46.3% Berry Bros & Rudd), Ben Nevis 18yr (46% Douglas Laing), Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban (46%), Edradour 10yr sherry butt (56.6%), Laphroaig Lore (48%), Octomore (58.1% Elements of Islay).
 
Just treated myself to the Diageo Talisker 2020 special release. 8 year old finished in Carribbean rum casks and bottled at 57.9%. Unsurprisingly it's amazing.
 
Couple of years ago, Talisker was quite popular here - especially Storm. Totally unable to get any special releases, probably just as well since nobody seems to want Talisker any more.
 
Kilkerran 16. Seriously brilliant.

Also, if you manage to get a bottle that's more than around 10 years old (before they changed the label, DDW's mothers grandfather (I think), used to live in the house at the very bottom of the label. They used a newer photo about 10 years and the house dropped off the bottom, just!
Sorry the whisky? That well known American favourite, Glenmorangie.

Lycan, when you say you had one, do you mean a shot? or a fucking bottle??
That Midleton one retails here for around €90 a bottle.

Mr Dennison, my favourite whiskies are smokey/or peated ones Talisker, Laphroig or Connemara Peated whisky.
Just lovely, lovely stuff.
What sort of a shop do you own?
 
It might be more than just a whiskey shop. (If they exist in isolation)
Curious as to how America regulates the sale of whiskey...
 
Liquor sales are VERY highly regulated over here (and therefore corrupt as hell).

Distillers cannot own distributors.
Distributors cannot own retail outlets.
Distributors have a statewide monopoly on the supply of any given product.
Some liquor store chain owners (allegedly) receive back-handers from distillers and distributors.
In Texas publicly traded companies are not allowed to own liquor stores.
In Texas no individual is allowed to open more than 5 new liquor stores, but can purchase any number of pre-existing stores, or spread ownership among family members.
In Texas, grocery stores, gas stations, corner shops are allowed to sell beer and wine but not liquor. Every state has different rules.
Texas liquor stores cannot open before 10am or close after 9pm, and Sunday opening is illegal. Again, every state has different rules.

Thanks for putting that up. Really interesting. It must drive you nuts if you lived in the corner of a state and 5 miles away there was a completely different set of laws. Can you sell 'associated' stuff, like snacks or cigars, pipe tobacco and fags?

They can in Florida anyway. The liquor stores are huge, bigger than convenience stores here, wall to wall with beers, wines and spirits and there is usually a side wall for cigars and tobacco, and then a couple of aisles of snacks.
Anytime I've been in, there has always been a shady character in there, meth-heads usually, wired out of their minds muttering to themselves or trying to beg for change.
 
We 'can' sell anything, as long as a) it is legal, and b) we have the necessary permits. We have a very limited range of snacks and cigarettes. I used to have a humidor and carry a few cigars, but my distributor went out of business and there are few alternative suppliers. There is a vape shop a couple of doors down and I can envisage combined liquor/vape stores in the future (you have to be 21+ in both). Some of the big liquor stores carry a small number of delicatessen foods. We are just a mom 'n' pop small store.

We do make around $250 a week from selling lottery tickets.
 
Love Irish, Tullamore DEW, Jameson, Bushmills, although my eldest bought me a bottle of Glenlivet for Christmas which is going down very nice.
 
If you like Irish, I would suggest Green Spot if you haven't yet tried it.
