West Ham (A) Match Thread

Who'd have thought match threads could decline from the days when WH parroted what the Wolves World commentary incorrectly saw?

Just to needlessly piggyback further, I wasn't offended but Traore got railed on in the transfer thread like he's a neanderthal incapable of doing anything but run in a straight line, and he's been fantastic every single time he's been on the pitch so far. He hasn't been perfect, no. But to single him out as being "dinosaur brained" when Jota similarly loses the ball running into crowds, not to mention his terrible flop in the box which lost possession, and Costa who has been absolutely ineffective...

the criticism seems excessively insulting, stupid, and baseless. a lot of people were complaining about "we just need a hard man in midfield" tropes in the off season, this is the same shit.

Fucking hell.

Quote my post taking it back and all that. Good Lord.

You can argue with the phrasing all you like, but Adama doesn't have much of a footballing brain at present, sorry. He never knows when to pass it, he constantly runs into trouble...it's worth it because of what he brings (and we will try to work on the crap bits). So don't be surprised when people get frustrated with him in real time.

Load of fucking shite from first to last.

Oh and Jota gets tripped, possible pen. He was poor today though.

And yes, I think that was a pen on Jota. He wasn't great but he is always dangerous.

It was a penalty, I said to Cass as it happened and on the replay. Just goes to show that just like arseholes, some people's opinions smell worse than others.

If anyone has no end product and runs into blind alleys this season it's Jota.

They are all just as frustrating as Traore at times today. Especially Jota, Jimenez, Costa and Neves. But at least with Traore you know he'll do something good at least once or twice, even in a short cameo. You just have to put up with his holding on the ball too long, which is infuriating at times.

I think when Cav comes back (hopefully fully fit) we'll be even more dangerous.

It wasn't a pen on Jota IMO. Would have been very soft. He leaned into the defender as much as the other way around but bounced off the worst looking for it. 50/50 shoulder challenge for me.

.

He is at his worst when he gets the ball quite deep in our own half, he does his turn and then head down off he goes when the best option there is look for the pass to Jiminez or whoever and then blast off into the space. I am hoping that is something we build into his game.

Pretty much this. Jimenez did some fantastic stuff today and if he'd scored one or two it would have been the near perfect striker's performance, but as he's messing up the important bits it does become frustrating. Jota needs to realise he's not coming up against Bolton or Villa, Costa needs to realise he's not been injured since last season and Traore needs some coaching, but all of them will be this off-game forever, and when they click we'll be fucking tasty. And as you said when you add a fit Cav to the mix then it's good times.

We will.

The thing is you can't treat him as if he's a £500k punt from League One. He cost us £18m and I can understand why people rage at him in real time. To pick up on that is odd because by nature he is a very infuriating player (that doesn't mean that I or anyone else can't see what he does actually bring to the table).

Defender put his leg across him and didn't get the ball if memory serves me correctly. Penalty.

And Cresswell should have been sent off.

That was a terrible challenge. The co commentator i was listening too said he had to do it to protect himself.

Tony Gale. Always seems to do comms for the London teams. In fairness he said he should have been off. The only thing I can think the ref let him off with is he didn't fully extend his arm, but sort of retracted it towards his head at the same time as he moved his head towards it, which made it look oddly less forceful, even though he still caught him fairly hard. If he hadn't made out he was trying to head it, he would have gone IMO.

Terry Gibson was on the NBC feed. He said it was a red and I agree.
