West Ham (A) 10/4: Build-Up & Match Thread

Remember that game well, played some really good stuff that day and should’ve won by more if Phil Parkes hadn’t been in top form.
Parkes would have been 39 then. An excellent keeper, far better than our namesake was when I saw him at the end of his time at Wolves.

First keeper I ever saw be a real problem for Bully obviously Bully had the last laugh but Parkes was excellent that day.

I was. A 0-1 battering, he was ridiculous.

First ever time I saw us lose in person, I cried after :D (I was only 7 in fairness)
Still the best keeper performance I've seen live. Not sure anyone has come back since and got the reception Kenny Hibbitt got that day, in fact I'm sure they haven't.

My word. I remember having/collecting these ‘Pro Set’ cards. I used to play with and look at them for hours and hours when I was a kid. I vividly remember coming around from a serious operation when I was 5-6 years old, waking up and seeing my dad sitting next to my hospital bed - and the first thing I asked to do was to play with my football cards.

Real wave of nostalgia seeing the pic above. Thanks for that, mate!

Yeah, me and our kid had hundreds and hundreds of the things.

Including about 12 Mark Bowens.

I’ve just had a quick look online to see if you can buy them…

Let’s just say I wish I’d kept hold of them. Going for hundreds now!
Mine will still be at the folks house up in the loft somewhere alongside a load of sticker books, pogs and tazos!

Talking of football cards...I collected Football 78 Panini sticker album as a kid...I completed it!!!

When i started my first real job in '87 I took it in to show some of the blokes at work... one of them asked if they could take it to show a mate of theirs who was recovering from a broken femur... that was the last I saw of it...

3 wolves players, Bull, Mutch and Dennison and Paul Birch but he was a Villa player.

Gary lineker and Gaza was the gold dust cards which took me ages to get I kept getting Ian Olney, Mitchell Thomas and Mohamed Amar.

When Esso did the ‘silver’ coins early 70’s for the World Cup, I managed to get one with my name on. Still got it today. I don’t think I got to play a match though but was in the squad.
