Welcome new members

Can't help picturing Darvo looking like this.

Hi everyone, going to have a look at this forum for a bit and see what it's like, after a few years posting elsewhere.

Welcome QB,
Get a tin hat, this place on many days, is not for the feint hearted.
But it is usually massively informative, and quite often very funny.

Tyneside born and inbred 1966
Started from afar circa 1976
Armchair wolves fan
Due to dads friend moving to Wolverhampton

He sent numerous News and Star clipping plus most of 76/77 programes

Favourite players were Doog and especially Kenny Hibbert

To me the 70’s ( from a far) was a decade is so so close

Euefa cup runners up to the Big Six Spurs
Numerous close shaves with FA cup
A relegation
Two League cup wins
Another two FA cup semis vs Arsenal and Spurs

Then xxxxxxx melt down

Was at St James 1979 for Kenny’s fab strike in FA cup
And Roker for the not so fab League cup 0-5

Lad who drove to that game - a Sunderland fan claimed his dad went to school with John Barnwell !!!

Who stayed off playing for my local club Whitley Bay

It always confuses me to how the 76 relegation happened

Granted I was only ten and following from afar

And it amuses me with Newcastle United fans complaining about Mike Ashley
, they bounced back immediately both times and didn’t sink to bottom tier

Thanks for the archive photos

Some really interesting pics of the ground

Welcome GW, there are worse places than this, but not many better.
Any wolves queries contact Deutsch wolf, he's a walking wolves encyclopaedia.
🤣
Welcome Geordie Wolves.

DW aka Dan is a walking wolves encyclopaedia from the late 80s to the present day - literally. Any obscure fact or tidbit then he'll be onto it.

As for the 70s I'm a pretty good fount of knowledge . . . and opinion.

As to why Wolves were relegated in 1975/76, pretty simple really - McGarry failed to adequately replace the ageing stars in Bailey, Dougan and Wagstaffe and couldn't adjust his tactics/formation to suit the players he had.

Still the team was good enough to bounce back to the First Division as Division 2 champions in 76/77.

Thanks

Doog was a favourite

Waggy and Bailey is before my time

Didn’t realise Frank Munro was so good

I suppose only Sir Alex Ferguson and Bob Paisley are examples of managers replacing teams

NUFC lost 2 good midfielders in Tony Green and Jinky Jimmy Smith in 2 years

Former only played 1-2 seasons but is rated highly

Smith played for Scotland in 1974 World Cup and by 1976/77 for Whitley Bay !!!! Debut was 1000 crowd , about 800 more than normal

Really like the old ground pictures

How big was South Bank

Looks approx 25k plus

Sorry kiwi, my bad, just wasn't thinking.
I love your early knowledge, reminds me of my days on the north bank, and more.
