The things that I really, really like thread...

Closed my school tomorrow due to road closures for the trophy parade so I have tomorrow off. New 2nd team.😂😂

About the only thing they were selling for a pound then.

Whole concept of their store vanished in recent years. Just turned into a B&M type place with the wrong name.
Yeah it's a weird concept.
Poundland opened a new store in Newport a few years ago, 2 doors down from an established B & M, seemed bonkers to me.
Hope it keeps going though as another empty shop in the middle of the high street looks crap (not to mention the lost jobs of course)

Went to see Clive Myrie give a guest lecture earlier this week.
He was fascinating. Really engaging. Spoke movingly of his family, experiences that migrants have, history, mental health & so much more.
He also did a q&a, & someone tried to get cocky asking a question about Gaza & the BBC that he gave a phenomenally good answer to (& I hope the applause he got for this resonated with him).

Absolutely top notch. Love the fella!

The ratchet belt. Fantastic things.

I don’t know if I’m just late to the party but where have you been all my life?

All tools are cool, even if I dont how to use them.
Are we talking ratchet straps or ratchet belts?

To be fair they’re both awesome. Took about 10ft off a bloody tall Yew tree last weekend and used ratchet straps to guide it down into the one safe narrow gap between a couple of delicate roofs. Precision job, well chuffed with that.

But ratchet (trouser) belts, what a fantastic design, work brilliantly.

Funny how some people just love tools, I can’t get enough of them. Seem to turn any minor repair job into an excuse to buy some more but never had a problem with that as they tend to pay for themselves in the end.
Impact driver was my best purchase, bought one when I was 18, JIS screws in a Japanese motorcycle were bastards to get out, still use it now.

jIS screws need a JIS screwdriver, slightly different tip profile than a Phillips screwdriver, using a Phillips rounds the head, which is why you end up using an impact driver.
Bicycle derailleur adjustment screws are all JIS as well

Yeah I only found out about JIS screws/drivers about 5 years ago, I now have a set after years of struggling and not knowing why.
Tbf I think it wasn't just the difference between JIS and Phillip, Posi screws but also the habit of manufacturers putting steel screws in alloy casings which causes a reaction leading to the white crud you get.

That’s a hell of a coincidence - I bought mine at 16 because I couldn’t get the cover off to access the points on my Honda SS50. I remember wincing at how expensive it was, no cheap Chinese option on Amazon back then. Still going strong now so maybe you do get what you pay for after all.

I had absolutely no idea. They say you learn something new everyday, that’s a good one, I like that.

Screwfix in the morning it is. Cheers for that.

Mine was fairly cheap back in 1978, about 6 quid I think, tbf that was more than 10% of a weeks take home pay.

That SS50 would be worth 4-5 grand now!
Scary the prices of some of that stuff. As you’ll know the 4 strokes were never as popular (or as quick) as the FS1E’s and AP50’s, and mine was one of the slower early flat-bar 4 speed ones too.

A quick shufti online and up pops exactly the same model in the same colour too in the motorcycle section of Car and Classic. 5 grand! Honestly, nostalgia is a thing right, but 5 grand?? Crazy.
