The things that I really, really like thread...

After the back to work blues earlier in the week, getting to the weekend!

Seriously, do you all hate your jobs that much?

I don't hate my job. If I were able to do my job in the manner it needed doing, all would be well.

I dislike my job in comparison to other things I like/need to do.

I hate interfering from idiots who know little or less about how to do my job.
I've a scenario going on at work I can't discuss publicly, other than to say everything is very precarious now, thanks to the actions of a few fuckwits.

Getting the ole gladrags on this evening and its off to the Brewers Ball! Then a long weekend away to celebrate this weeks good news. Also Aretha Franklin tickets have just arrived.

Mine's been pretty wank this week to be fair, not had a great deal of work to do and have been the only 1 of the usual 4 in the office until today, 1 left the business at Easter, 1 on holiday and the other had been working down South for 3 days. Most of the corridor are on holiday this week so it's been a pretty slow 4 days with little to do and few distractions from the boredom.

Positive end to the week though as I've finally caught our regional director for my annual pay review, after missing him Tuesday morning he hasn't been seen since! So that's a nice little boost going into the weekend.

I've been mega busy as we've only been in for 3 days, so its year end, month end and we had graduation data to sort just before the easter break so I've had to do a lot of cramming. Therefore I'm looking forward to a couple of days rest!

But I actually enjoy my work now - such a contrast to my previous job.

Technically speaking I can pick and choose when I work, although in practice this doesn't pan out as I can't pick and choose when to eat or when to pay bills. I don't mind what I do. I could do a lot more and earn more money, I have nothing to spend it on though. I keep toying with the idea of moving back into salaried territory, I don't know though. I loathe office politics and I get very picky about which people I do and don't like to deal with on a daily basis.

I've posted on here many times how much I hate office politics, so I'm delighted that I seem to work with actual adults in my new job so there's not a hint of any - it's a very refreshing experience! I know it's unusual not to be subjected to any when my role is almost always office based, but I must have just got lucky in that respect.

You really are getting middle aged aren't you :icon_lol:

I'm getting worse. I'm buying a coffee table to put my cuppa on, because it's annoying having to bend down to pick my mug up from the floor.

Working in an academic environment helps I suppose. That's the kind of area I wouldn't mind moving into. Fuck lecturing for a living though :icon_lol:

Yeah, you do that enough on here....

If they ever bring out a module on 'Myths concerning Wolverhampton Wanderers, 1988-present' then I'll apply. I don't want to be talking to semi-interested 18 year olds about linguistics though. It's bad enough that the one thing I can do properly is completely inconsequential, I don't want to have to talk about it every day to people who'd rather still be in bed.

They all walk SO slowly. That's my main gripe with them. They're mainly very pleasant to speak to and I don't have a problem with them normally but bloody hell they don't half dawdle.

I've not experienced any office politics in my two 'proper' jobs.

Probably wasn't likely to happen at the last place as everyone was split into pairs in small offices other than the manager who had his own and there were 3 lads together in the bigger office at the end but there wasn't really ever any tension between anyone along the corridor anyway. Not much gone on at this place either, lots of us had a big office swap around just after I started as different departments expanded and so were put into the bigger offices, few people got a bit arsey about that but I think that was just the inconvience as much as anything else, within our office of 4 there's never been an issue, no-one gets a round of drinks in or anything like that it's just every man for himself.

Try leaving for your train a minute earlier...
