The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

See Diogo J.

We do seem to do some crap deals and then borrow at shitty rates to tide ourselves over - or even worse sell the remainder of the transfer debt for earlier money at a reduced amount.
I get that, but jota wasn’t a release clause?

Was it 4 years 8m on the drip per year with 5m upfront? If he was offered a 4 year deal would make what TT said make sense tbf.

Either way, getting 62.5m say over 5 years seems shit to me, unless that’s how basically all deals are done now

Depends if you are negotiating from a position of strength I guess. It seems like we are not.. a release clause means we are bound to accept the offer - the structure of payments is up to negotiation but if Cunha wants to go to the shit hole above all else (the feckin lunatic) then they have us by the knackers.

It doesn’t have to be done that way. A player a club doesn’t want to sell can insist on getting it all in one go, which I believe Leicester got when Maguire was sold.

Won't be many deals out there that are paid in one go.

Utd for example are on the hook for a shit ton of transfer payments this summer. £17m for Sancho one of them.

As for the Cunha release clause it would be poor negotiating by the club if a maximum length of time to pay the fee hasn’t been inserted.

Not if there’s 5 premier league clubs interested 🤗🙃

Not really. We don't know the nature of the release clause but hopefully it is a full money upfront clause. If so, we might be able negotiate a higher fee for longer terms. I rather doubt the clause says that any bid of X amount and paid over x years must be accepted.

I can't imagine there is a demand for office space, conferencing facilities etc in Wolverhampton?
You'd be surprised. Everyone forgets just how large Wolverhampton proper actually is, everyone sees the statistics about the council area that doesn't cover the whole city by a long shot and compares it with other council area that are much bigger than the place they are named after.

Whilst there's quite a lot of spare office space in the city centre, it's mostly 60s/70s/80s build so just not up to modern requirements for power, data connectivity etc. There is a lot of suppressed demand there.

Granted it’s a google search, but it seems majority of release clauses are to be paid upfront.

Granted, if United come in with a bid of 62.5m on installments, it may not meet the ‘release clause terms’ but we’re still in a difficult position, as a betting man/woman would say he’s off.

The podcast was saying about maybe getting more money if it’s on the drip, but I guess depends if there’s genuine interest from other parties, and if Cunha is open to other moves.

If you could incorporate some hotel accommodation too. We don't have a single good hotel in the city centre, the Novotel being the best by a distance speaks volumes (it's adequate enough I suppose but in a decent sized city should be mid-table).
