The Music Thread Strikes Back

Weirdly, I’ve never got sick of Alive by Pearl Jam. I still enjoy listening to it as much now as I did the first time I heard it.

A lot of my favourite songs have been overplayed by MTV or rock radio so I rarely listen to them now.
yeah, definitely gone off a lot of big singles by favourite artists that got over exposed. The joy is that led me to deeper cuts on albums that I may not have explored in as much detail before.

I probably agree but they're both much of a muchness in the slightly above average rock stakes.

Shed Seven tickets on sale via there website from tomorrow. Sigh up tonight if interested.

Not sure whether to put this in the music thread or one of the politics threads, couldn't decide which though! So here it is.

Love or hate the song, he's right about one thing: the political right just don't have good music.

I dunno. Racist anti-vaxxer Eric Clapton had a couple of good ones.

I have a very complicated relationship with Morrissey these days. I can square listening to The Smiths with the easy "it's Johnny fucking Marr, man" get out clause, but you can't do that with his solo stuff. Helps that he hasn't brought out a good record since 2009.

Ah you can if you separate the art from the artist. For me, the strangest thing to come to terms with, was how drastic the shift was with Morrissey.
His output and lyrics in the 80s and 90s were very left leaning, but his recent comments and views are pretty much far right views.

there was always something culturally there with Moz. quite early on it was if he desired to be Charles hawtrey’s characters in the Carry on series and the camp humour from those movies was often reflected in his lyrics. I think that’s his ideal vision of GB. Ironic that he sang about not clinging to the old days anymore.

I’m sure I can recall an article where he slagged off a whole series of major black artists and he also labelled reggae as the most racist music, with zero context to its roots. Both pre 1990 or maybe around that time. and when he released national front disco, which must have been early 90s, MES, who knew him pretty well cos he said in earlier days Moz used to follow him into the Gents, basically said in a review that the Closets love all the SS type regalia.

he prob has a mixture of left/right views politically but he’s obv framed himself as anti multiculturalism.

See John Lydon for a similar journey
He did say in about 1985 that big business is very wise and that he’s crossed over to the other side. he still seems to think he invented punk and is the only one allowed to comment on it.

For me You are the Quarry was a good album and the last decent album he did, but in my eyes Vauxhall and I was a true true masterpiece and my favourite album ....
