The Music Thread Strikes Back

What's a Mega-Fap?

Sounds like Frank's stereo system.

Heh, Manics are OK..nothing wrong with radio friendly unit shifters (to sort of quote Kurt Cobain) although I'm not sure that letting Nicky Wire sing is necessarily a good thing.. For you Manic appreciators James Dean Bradfield's solo album The Great Western is worth a listen too.

The XX are shit.

DW is listening to Morrissey. For a change.

Never got it with Morrissey. Can't stand him. Whinge whinge whine whine woe is me & my double standards. Vegan leather wearer.

I remember being in a pub with a couple of mates. This chap joined us. Was putting decent music on the jukebox (eg the stone roses), with some occasional crap thrown in. As each song came on, we'd all comment on the band/selection, blah blah.

As time went by, we got more & more drunk. Eventually, something by Morrissey or the smiths came on. My distaste was instant. I slammed down my glass. "Fuck, did you put this on?"

Geezer "yeah."

Me "Fuck! I hate Morrissey!"

Geezer - "I quite like him!"

Me "Fuck. Are ya gay?"

Geezer "yeah..."

Now this guy was a practical joker. Me in my stupor, combined with naievete let it go, the conversation & music carried on.

3 hours later, it was chucking out time. The geezer wanders over to me. He tells me I asked him a question earlier, & he answered me honestly. I told him I appreciate the honesty. He says, yeah, but about the question, you know the one I'm on about.

The conversation was a long time ago. I can't recall - we'd been chating for hours. I have no idea. For about 10 mins I stand in front of the guy saying "I asked loads of questions, which one you on about?" with the reply being "you know the one..."

Then, lightbulb moment. FUCK ME, HE REALLY FUCKING IS GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What to do? He's asking me if I am.

No I am not.

You tried it?

No.

How do you know?

There are some things you just know, ok?

Exits....stage left...

I went to see the excellent Josh Ritter in Oxford last friday. Live, the man is simply a phenomenon. Plus, Oxford Town Hall is an interesting place for a gig.

Been spending a happy few hours downloading most of my CDs to iTunes to go onto my ipod. Squeeze found a box we forgot to unpack when we moved in and it had about 60 of my faves that I thought I had lost. I was like a dog with two dicks!

I'm sure that most of you will vomit profusely upon hearing the stuff I like, but to me it was a great moment.

I am basking in the glow of Lost Souls by Doves this evening and for the drive to work tomorrow The Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow. Bring on the weekend!

Both SUPERB albums, Squeeze.

I listened to TSSK yesterday, in fact.

I find Bowie a bit hit and miss. Some of his stuff I really like, and other bits I think sound like a dirge.

I love Bowie. Glastonbury 2000 was an amazing gig - ending with I'm Afraid Of Americans. Class.

Well I've given The XX a go and I'm not convinced I'm afraid. Nothing about them seems to grab me - it's almost like the album never gets going. It's not awful, just completely and utterly average - nothing new, different or original.

I'll give it a few more listens, but right now I'd categorise them as 'hugely overrated'.

Anyone who cannot appreciate Bowie for his contribution to Music is either tone deaf or just deaf !

Mumford & Sons, what do we reckon?
