The Football News Thread 2024/25

I can't think who'd want that buy in.

They've hit a definite ceiling with very high profile owners, spent quite a lot along the way too, the attendances don't grow any more and there's just too much competition in the area, even more so with Stockport getting back to where they should be.

It's like taking over Walsall - you can't take fans off the bigger clubs around you or ever overtake them, so you're throwing money at nothing.

Difficult to not look at Wrexham and see they've achieved what they hoped to do with another level of celebrity

I really enjoyed this weeks Rest is Football podcast interview with Russell Martin. His football philosophy may not be everyone’s cup of tea but there’s a fascinating back story to his life as a child, how he eventually got a contract as a pro and his progression through the game to management.

Eddie Howe will miss the game against United tomorrow having been admitted to hospital late on Friday evening after feeling unwell for a number of days

I’m convinced that Bellegarde coming good and inflating my ego is karma for not sticking to my guns on Onana being shit when United bought him.

The most ridiculous thing about Onana was that he left Ajax on a free and Ten Haag didn’t take him to United only for him to drop £50+m on him a year later.

It's baffling, really. I still have a soft spot for Cameroon in particular (have for a long while, probably borne out of my years addicted to FIFA in which I almost always had Benjamin Moukandjo up top), so followed Onana at Ajax a bit when they were looking for a proper successor to Kameni. He's always made the exact same sorts of mistakes. Good footballer, typically outstanding reflexes, but wretched at commanding his area and always prone to an unforgivable clanger. Was the same at Inter, as well.

What EtH was thinking there, if anything, only he knows.

He's like the goalkeeping version of Adama, I guess. The tools are all there; the composure to actually use them, though...
