The Football News Thread 2024/25

Absolutely no chance they directly kick them out, that would be terrible optics. They'll hit them with another points deduction at the start of next season, or this if it stops them making the play offs

Bury made it all the way through the season (and went up), they couldn't start the next season though.

Think Maidstone played about 4 games before they got binned.

Aldershot and Newport (the latter in the Conference by then) got to the spring then were chucked.

Bury, Maidstone and Aldershot either went bust or couldn't commit to fulfilling their fixtures though didn't they? They weren't just chucked out

I suppose it's the same principle as not having a safety certificate for your ground and having nowhere else to play. You're not insolvent as such but you're also flying flagrantly against the conditions of playing in the league.

I have a bit of sympathy with the League on this one. I'm sure they'd love to forcibly remove the club from his grasp but ultimately it's a private entity, so you have the nuclear option or nothing.

I said yesterday that the Sylvinho/Pablo Zabaleta managerial team for Albania was like a weird FM save.

Well it's obviously catching as Victor Anichebe is close to becoming owner of Gateshead.

Hold your shock; I was fond of Anichebe. Weird to think how long it’s actually been since he was at Everton.

Didn’t say he was any good 😉

Barry Towns vice captain jailed for 2.5 years for dealing cocaine, club only found out after the sentencing when a family member rang them to ask a question about him being in court.

Everton had a test event at their new stadium yesterday for 25k and the local infrastructure couldn't cope. No better than Goodison from that perspective.

The first test game was a disaster on that front. Load of complaints around how the nearest train station couldn't cope at all

More of that and a bridge needs to be restricted in capacity which caused big delays apparently. Less than 50% of the number they'll be getting next season

I've stayed in the Titanic Hotel near the stadium (back in 2021). Quality place to stay but there was nothing at all set up for that area in terms of transport or amenities.
