The Football News Thread 2024/25

Southampton binning their satellite Academy based in Bath, very surprised by that. That base allowed them to get the likes of Bale in the past (they had special dispensation as the 90 minute commute rule was a bit unfair on them being as if you go five minutes south, you're in the sea).

Just going for a few beers before heading to the Estadio Rosalada Vamos Málaga.

Important play off semi Final

Alan Hanson very seriously ill in hospital, just flashed up on sky news, no other details as yet

Two boring automatic promotions from the second division in Spain (Premier League esque yo yo tedium), but much more interesting in the play-offs. An Oviedo V Gijon final would be a huge local dust-up and, personally speaking, it would be great to see a big Asturian team back in the top flight. Wouldn’t be unhappy to see Éibar back up either. If it’s one of those three then I’ll be on a trip there for a game next season.

I watched Oviedo vs Eibar yesterday, quite a good game. Maybe lacking in a bit of quality, you could tell the occasion was getting to the Oviedo players in particular.

I'd love to see Oviedo come back up. That'd be a true fairytale story for them to be back after 23 years.

Top place to visit alongside a match too :)

Amazed by the amount of Villa fans who were up in arms with City’s Premier League charges, other clubs bending the rules (despite their own questionable sale of ground) and it being unfair that oil states are buying clubs yet suddenly think that clubs should be able to spend what they like or take the league to court.
Correct me if I’m wrong but changing premier league rules to suit themselves will lead to them falling foul of European rules and being barred from their competitions ?
Their owners seem to be as arrogant as a large section of their fan base. I hope it all blows up in their faces.

Looks like 2028 Euros will have to have a rejig. Announced yesterday Casement Park in Belfast highly unlikely to be ready in time.
Only at tender stage now & would have to be completed by summer of 2027 to meet UEFA requirements.
That along with government promise of funds has "cooled" along with the election & delay with the change of government to release funds has knackered it.
Was due to have 5 games, along with that Norn Iron probably lose out any chance of getting an automatic qualification.

Cut the number of teams to 16, less stadia needed, sorted 👍

Naa just up to 64 and do it in the desert. In winter.

I did read today that our deal is 4 times the size of the Astropay one at £10m a year. I know all the arguments against, but it's not something Shi is ever going to say no to and neither will he given his orders

It’s hilarious how clubs, authorities or whoever don’t actually give a fuck.

It’s crazy that this stuff is allowed. Possible stupid question though - if these companies don’t exist where does the sponsor money come from?

They are illegal betting sites - they exist, just not here. They are usually hosted in off shore tax havens and targets customers in SEA or Africa.
