The Film Thread

Directed by Kenneth Branagh no less.

I watched possibly the worst film I've ever seen last night, so crap it took me a while to work out if it was actually taking the piss out of itself.

Kind of like trying too hard to be a 'B' movie.

"The Happening" with Mark Wahlberg, dreadful.

I've never seen it, but it's crapness is legendary!

The Big Lebowski is the greatest film ever.

Funnily enough I watched a Mark Wahlberg film last night, 'Invincible'. Another sports film about a guy who turned up to an open public try out for the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team and ended up with a place on the roster. Good story, the film was enjoyable but a bit lightweight in terms of the characters. Think of the story as Deutsch turning up at Compton and playing in the Black Country derby a few weeks later, that's essentially what happened!

The Departed was fantastic. I have to say (and I am aware that I will be in a significant minority here) but I preferred it to Goodfellas...

check the FBI most wanted list. James Bulger, who Nicholsons character is based on is still on there

Paranormal activity is a massive disappointment, scariest film ever my arse.

It would've been fantastic if the entire film was like the last 20 minutes. I think the build-up helped with pulling the audience into the story, but it was rather drawn out.

Overall it's not a bad horror flick, though.

True, not sure if it would have been fantastic but it might have actually moved me. Problem is then the whole point of the movie, building up tension and scaring people by not letting them know when somethings going to happen (which obviously completely backfired with me) would have had to been changed.

The movie would definitely not have been as effective. Part of what made it scary was the "realness" of the situation because of the build up. PA2 is supposed to be a lot more in your face, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I really enjoy possession/spiritual movies in general though (even if they're a bit sub-par), so maybe I'm not the best to comment. :D

Fucking crazy concepts, if the execution is good these films might be worth a watch even if only for a laugh.

I'm definitely going to see that. Directed by Moss from the IT Crowd too.

Had to go and sit through Water for Elephants tonight, epic fail.

watched Hobo with a shotgun last night. If you like Grindhouse you'll love it, if you dont know what Grindhouse is, I'd steer clear
