The FIFA Debacle

So there was a pre vote agreement that the 2018 World Cup would be held in Russia. Why have a vote then?

So it doesn't look corrupt.

All the FA's that campaigned for the 2018 should be taking FIFA to court to get every single penny they wasted back

I stand by what I said a few months back. Nations should withdraw from FIFA and elect a brand new, properly democratic governing body that has the best interests of the game at heart.

Let the Russians have their World Cup - but I don't want England to have any part in it whatsoever, and I'd love it if we led the breakaway, and other supposed influential national governing bodies followed suit.

Fuck FIFA - fuck any sort of restructuring within a completely morally bankrupt joke of an organisation and start again from scratch. Too much needs to change for there to be a mere 'clearout'.

Agreed. With every statement and every new revelation, the depth of the corruption within FIFA gets deeper and deeper.

the composite picture of the 8 "would be" presidents, continues to look like a wanted poster.

Any breakaway would need the major football nations to be united. And that lead would have to come from Europe. But even then the big problem is that all countries and associations come under FIFA's jurisdiction, and if any country tried to breakaway then FIFA would doubtless take legal action to prevent any such breakaway from playing organised football. It could lead to a battle in the courts for control of football. And may well end up with two or more organisations controlling football in different parts of the world. I have no idea of the legal ramifications of such a situation, but I cannot help but think that football would be the loser.

Football, on the whole, has already lost Frank.

Because it's onto a clear winner with the corrupt chaos engulfing it right now, of course.

It would be incredibly complicated and would take a massive amount of courage let alone hard work, but ultimately I think football would be in a far better shape under new governorship. Because at the moment, it's fucked.

when this thread started it was a EUFA thread, my suggestion that EUFA pulled out of FIFA altogether.

looking at the gangsters lined up to succeed Sepp, well, what can i say, nothing has changed, and Eufa should still go it alone.

Whoever wins this election it will still be a cover up rather than a fresh start. The backhanders principle is too well established so let's just call it a draw and end FIFA, and if Africa or Asia don't like it, well tough shit, they'll find another source of tax free income, bless em.

Sorry to be a pedant Pav, but it's UEFA. Not EUFA.

ha ha quite right Langers, but after 4 hours beachcombing in a storm while wearing just a T shirt, and a few cypros in front of the first Taverna log fire of the season, it's anything you want it to be. ha ha ha

Is that you, Sepp?

Ha ha, (I'm Laughing out loud) Blatter and Platini have had their appeals rejected and thus, their bans upheld by the world governing body.

Your'e going daaaan Seppie baby.

FIFA ethics committee has requested life ban for Platini.

Have the FA stopped supporting him to be the next FIFA president yet?

Think they withdraw their support a few weeks back.

Cheers Kenny - I've looked it up and it was withdrawn on the 16th of October. I'll use the excuse that I was out of the country.
