The F1 Thread

Love him or hate him, but he has been one of the best. But time has caught up with him, and the young guns have left Schumacher behind.

Well, Seb's on fire! I was awake for free practice 3 but didn't make qualifying so not entirely sure how it panned out; but what a showing from the Saubers'!

Ferrari definitely need to come up with some new parts to close the performance gap a bit.

Lewis crying about Jenson unfollowing him on Twitter. Obviously something wrong there!

Apparently Jenson never followed him! (Or so he says anyway)

Lewis can be a right pleb sometimes, engage brain before typing/speaking.

Acting like a petulant child, nothing new,

Always preferred Jenson myself.

I can't really get on board wit Jenson, he's nice enough and everything but I hate the way he moans about his car all the time, even when he's doing well there is something for him to complain about, he wants it absolutely perfect which it never will be realistically whereas Lewis seems to enjoy driving no matter what the car's like. Hamilton does do some stupid things sometimes (more off the track than on it this season) but he's still my favourite driver on the grid to watch.

Personally, Button only seems to do well when the car is perfect for him - Anything less than that and he struggles. And whinges.

As for Lewis moaning about being unfollowed, can't we just credit him with the ability to be just a little tongue in cheek?

Oh, and I see that Webber's definitely cashed in his membership of the Romain Grosjean fan club!

Grosjean has to have the worst first lap record of anyone ever, surely? Shame because he's a very good driver otherwise, unlike that plank Maldonado.

Indeed. He seems like a thoroughly likeable guy too, unlike the majority of drivers.

Oh, and I see that Webber's definitely cashed in his membership of the Romain Grosjean fan club!

I can't quite remember all the circumstances but I'll always recall a few years back at either Japan or China, when it was absolutely pissing down. I think it was a restart after a safety car or something and the young Toro Rosso driver made some sort of small error that caused some sort of minor mayhem and Webber's radio was broadcast with him saying (and this is the relevant bit) 'That's what happens when you let kids drive.' The Toro Rosso driver was, of course, one S. Vettel. I often wonder how frequently he gets reminded of that by his team mate.

Drivers fall out and sometimes it lasts a career (and even beyond). James Hunt, even as a commentator, never forgave Ricardo Patrese for causing the accident that killed Ronnie Petersen.

Plus, arguing on Grosjean's side a moment, some drivers pick up reputations that are hard to cast off. Two I can think of are Andrea de Crasheris and Hunt the Shunt.

I'd definitely argue that Maldonado's various misdemeanours have been far more dangerous (even if the end effect has happily been the same).

Agree that Maldonado is by far the more dangerous driver but I don't think that you can put Grosjean's incidents all down to bad luck - I'd wonder if it would be worth taking him out of the firing line for the remainder of the season?

That was very easy for Vettel. The Red Bull's are looking very strong. They have come good at the right time. Ferrari also had another decent race.

This big update package really needs to work in India, or its all over.

Hulkenberg will join Sauber next season and looks set to be joined by Esteban Gutierrez.

Massa all but confirmed for 2013, he was superb today.
