The Darts Thread

Tough for Searle obviously, but the way he has been playing he could cause Littler some problems. Van Veen is definitely into the Premier League now. Gando and Searle both have a chance too.
I think Gary Anderson said he'd decline the invitation due to the format.

Searle will give Littler a good game & might even beat him. If the crowd starts getting on Littlers back like they did with the Cross game it might rock littler a bit.

Who do we think will be the 8 players that’ll compete in the PL?

Littler
Humphries
Van Gerwen
Van Veen
Clayton
Searle
Rock
Price

?

Noppert, Wade, Bunting, Cross outside bets? Anderson would be a given but has said he’ll turn it down.
Littler, Humphries, Van Veen & Van Gerwen Are Pretty much guarenteed to be picked.

The other 4 are anyones guess but my guess would be: Clayton being ranked 6th
Searle for World Championship performance
Bunting (ranked 7th)
Rock for how good he can be on shorter format.

I think Wade, Price, Cross etc would be considered to low in rankings. I saw a suggestion of Hood but its far too soon for that

Don’t think Asp or Dobey get in, despite being in it last year. Bunting might because people go nuts for his walk on song - even though that shouldn’t really make the slightest bit of difference.

Bunting's walk on 3 times in 1 night would get old very fast.

I tend to not watch the Premier League of darts due to the format. I prefered the h2h league format of playing 12 legs irregardless & you could draw. They should revert back to that & bring back the invitational matches like they did when Mardle pulled out way back when.

Notice Sky have been on a positive Littler PR exercise since his outburst the other night.

If you watch the Matchroom doc on Sky you'll see how much he means to Hearn, they'll do whatever they can to protect that

Only player to Interview in the studio after a win. Ive seen that the PDC had signs up on the screen before Littlers match basically saying "Booing & whistling may lead to being ejected from the venue"

If I was any of the other players I'd be dejected at the time & PR spin that skysports give to Littler.

Bunting won't be 7th. Searle is provisional 7th before the semi-final. Clayton is provisional 4th, Van Gerwen 5th, Gando 6th (I think) and then Searle. So Bunting is at best 8th. So if Gando declines, I think it will be Rock and either Bunting or Price. Matchroom likes a villain, and Price fits the bill, plus he sells tickets for any matchnights in Wales.

For reference, the BBC confirmed everything in my post. And Searle was asked in his post match interview about his new provisional ranking of 7th.

The inevitability of Littler winning looks like Taylor in is his pomp
It's all the more impressive as a) Taylor was in his 30s and 40s when he was at his best, not 18 and b) Littler has way more competition than late 90s/early 00s Taylor. He's playing far better players in the latter stages than an old Priestley, Kevin Painter, Peter Manley and Andy Hamilton.

Mark Dudbridge made a Worlds final FFS

6-1 win for Littler. Too many big misses at the wrong moment for Searle. £200k better off for his troubles

Crazy standard. Little wobble from both but Anderson still averaging 105 in the set with 27% on doubles! First 9 darts must have been averaging 140+
