The Cricket Thread

Graham Swann played 174 first class matches before being called up for England, he'd honed his skills across all months April-September and did a lot of maturing character wise. Many counties, Warwickshire being one, aren't picking a specialist for many Championship matches now, so we select them either based on hunches (Ahmed, Bashir) or their ability to bat (Jacks).

Regret getting here at 11:30am now after that flurry of wickets this morning.

Well, if they chase down the total, which is about a 0.1% chance then, the record at the MCG and SCG isn't too bad.

The problem is they need to bat all of today and most of tomorrow to get to 435 and Crawley needs to score about 175 of those now.

Just seen Brooks' dismissal. Fuck him off and then fuck him off some more. Absolute utter dickheads. Some proper defeatist nonsense from the interviews after too.

It’s a shocker considering the situation, we actually had a chance until he did that.
It’s a microcosm of England currently.
It’s never a shot to play on a turning pitch and being off balance.
It’s just the end of the line of problems which began when they thought rocking up with next to no preparation. As Steve Harmison said the management of Mark Wood leading into the series was a disgrace.
England will probably be match ready by the time we get to the SCG problem is their weak mindset will have been frazzled.

Some fight shown yesterday and today. Without the snicko debacle it would be a lot closer too.
Lost by 82 runs and the more you look at it that shot by Brook looks ever more costly.

Brook’s actually wasn’t so bad yesterday, that reverse sweep was our most successful shot vs Lyon for a long period. Just good bowling in the end.

Smiths today was the most infuriating. He got greedy after hitting two fours and had hit 4 in his last 6/7 balls but instead of consolidating and waiting for another bad ball he goes after one that wasn’t remotely there to be hit.

Aggers said that if you judged Brook’s dismissal in isolation it would look terrible but that didn’t tell the whole story.

I obviously had the benefit (?) of being in the ground for the day and so have better context than the highlights allow.

Brook deserves plenty of criticism but that particular one can go down in the well bowled column

Are you Aggers?! He said almost exactly that! 😂
