The Cricket Thread

On a positive note Bairstow's batting and Foakes' keeping should have made the who does Brook replace question a no brainer

If it hits above the knee roll then it’s usually very touch and go whether it hits the stumps.

He’s pinned on the crease and it’s only clipping the bails. Looks fine to me.

Was thinking that maybe Bazball need adapting, but after listening to ‘Aggers’ take his moment he’s been waiting for to unload about traditional cricket I’m all for it again.

He's already done that at least twice, when SA battered us at home in one Test and also in the Ashes. I liked him 15-20 years ago but he's been a bore for a long time now. Weirdo as well, that stuff with Jonathan Liew (a dick, but pick your moments) on Twitter and the infamous Partridgean interview with Lily Allen.

Just watched the highlights... at least Burnley and Sheff utd fans will be happy as they didn't take the biggest drubbing of the weekend.

Averaging under 30 since the start of the ashes now I think too? Probably about time to move on from him I reckon, at least for the last two tests here

Thing is it's only Dan Lawrence as back up, I'm not sure he'd do much better. I'm also getting more and more convinced that Ben Foakes is Chris Read/James Foster Max, simply not a good enough batsman at Test level. I get how people always want the best keeper (understandably so) but he doesn't even average 30 now and his record is heavily propped up by his debut series against a rubbish Sri Lanka team ages ago. If your keeper was averaging around that 25 years ago there'd be serious questions asked, it's not a new thing.

Yeah Foakes does need to do a bit more, but Bairstow isn’t doing enough to take that place either really! There are some good keeper batsmen around the county circuit at the moment so a potential place up for grabs at some point

Smith or Rew would be closest I think, but I don't actually know how good their keeping is or how often they even do it.
