Root moves to 100

.....and on to 10,000 test runs

Only 2 Englishmen have 10000 Test runs and they were both exactly the same age to the day when they got them, which is one of those weird stats that cricket throws up

Apparently Root has become one of only 3 batsmen to have scored a century in the 4th innings of a Test at Lords.

The others being Nasser and Greenidge.

England win by 5wkts

Well played Joe Root (115 n.o.) and Foakes

Brilliant win which looked very unlikely yesterday morning.

Joe Root test average up to 49.57. If he can score 105 in his next innings and be not out he would go above Younis Khan in the all time run ranking and level with Sunil Gavaskar on 10,122, while his average would also go to 50.11.

The tub retires out because he couldn't get the spinner away in the last over. Davies comes in and scores 14 off 4 balls. Good captaincy I suppose? Then Notts need 3 off the last ball and none striker Fat Sam retires for a faster runner. They got 1. It's going to be a trend now I think

I think they'll close it off as a loophole pretty quickly. Realistically you can't do that in a competitive game. I mean we still live in a world where if a bowler gets injured and it's not concussion you can't replace him (cost us vs Aus in 2019 and arguably cost NZ this weekend), let alone having a batsman just effectively sub himself off because someone else on the sidelines will do better.

If the game goes down that road then so be it (everything evolves, I'll fight forever not to be an "in my day" twat), but it needs a full rewrite so subs can come in under a range of circumstances.

Great entertainment in Roses game. What does the “hundred” improve on this?

The audience it gets through subsidised tickets, fta TV coverage and preferential scheduling...

And surely that’s just from the channel it’s on?
Of course.

Free to air stuff always gets more viewers as the audience is bigger and it will have a bigger reach on social media too.

The Hundred arguments have been done to death. I think you all know where I sit, but it's here to stay as Key is a fan - he was too supportive on Sky to kill it.

If it gets more people watching cricket and playing at club level I'm all for it.

Stop making it pay to play, destroy the county system along with its twattish public schoolboy boards and we'll have a much better system and pool of players to choose from.
