Relegation Thread 2023/24

It's a pretty small punishment though isn't it.

Playing devil's advocate a little here, but If for example Liverpool or City got the same punishment they'd still very comfortably make the Champions League. Almost makes it worthwhile?
Stops them winning the league though absolutely no one wants points docking or would counter it into a budget. Reality is if you keep doing it the punishments get larger.

Wouldn’t win the title though. And probably guaranteed CL without cheating given the state of the challengers

Bedtime reading for those interested.

The deduction is effectively a made up figure looking at precedents from the EFL and the administration points deduction although no scale of punishment is set in stone.

A quick scan stated that there PSR losses were £58m, £53m and then £14m. The £58m drops out for the current unsanctioned breach so they lost at least £38m in the 2023 season. Their only defence could be that the interest not allowable was not known at the time and therefore they did not have time to put their house in order but that depends upon communications between Everton and the Premier League. They were however charged in March 2023 so if there was a dispute at that point they did have 3 months to react to the possibility that they were wrong. Depending on what the loss for 2023 is, and guessing the interest for the 3 periods is £20m then that is just the sale of Pickford alone and they would have been compliant.

Based on that then I can see them and Forest getting 3 points

Assuming Everton and Forest are docked another 6 it'd be

Luton 20 (-16)
Everton 19 (-6)
------------------------------------
Forest 18 (-14)
Burnley 13 (-33)
Sheffield United 13 (-44)
Almost makes me hope we gift Luton 3 points at Molineux. Play like yesterday and we will.

Standard nutbar stuff on the BBC page.

Mac: I'm not happy with the outcome. We wanted the full 10 points back! We would be having a completely different season without the points deduction. We could be pushing for Europe. I don't see how Manchester City and Chelsea can just keep breaching and nothing happens, but as soon as Everton mess up once we get severely punished! It's a joke!

Hiya Mac, hiya pal.

1) How were you getting them all back exactly, the club pleaded guilty?

2) 0 wins in 9. Pushing for Europe la.

3) You didn't mess up *once*, did you.

I was speaking to an Everton season ticket holder last week who said they wouldn't have won as many games without the deduction, the sense of being wronged won them those 4 games on the spin

Forest is a tricky one for me. On one hand, they can get in the sea & piss back off to the Chanpionship, on the other, Nuno innit?

Tough one.

I was actually pleased to see Forest promoted when they first came up. Proper football club. But the way they’ve acted on & off the pitch since has really given me a dislike for them.

I really don't care that Nuno is there now. If they go down they go down. No sympathy from me.

I must be wired differently but when someone goes to another PL club I stop caring beyond giving them a clap or boo when they come back to Molineux dependent on my feelings towards them. I no more want Forest to stay up with Nuno than I do Luton with Edwards, in fact I'd prefer the latter. It's the main reason I always wanted Neves to go abroad. If Neto goes to a Sky 6 club, I won't care how he does there, beyond any financial incentives it may gain Wolves

Most experts seem to think Forest and Everton will be looking at around 1-5 point deductions more likely about 3 points.
Forest saving grace is it’s just the one season what’s not helping them is how gung-ho they were in the transfer market.
What the Everton sympathisers are missing is the genuine behaviour and abiding by the rules of the other clubs, the moment you ask about that the argument becomes very flat and lost.

If its 1-3 points then what is the point of staying within limits if getting a player is the difference between staying up and going down? A £50 million player on a five year deal is is say £15m a year for FFP purposes so clubs will know what they are doing. Everton with a £20m overspend and 6 points deduction should be the benchmark for all. Everton could have sold players to stay within limits, Forest could have sold Johnson earlier too so what they have done is knowingly breached limits.

It’ll probably be 6 points then reduced on appeal

Everton spent £88m in the summer 2022/23 transfer window on Onana £33m, Maupay £20m, McNeil £20m, Garner £15m and also got in Gueye, Tarkowski and Coady on Loan.
Regardless of money coming in they have still spent quite a sum.

It has got to be a penalty that hurts , not a tap on the hand .

There is little point in the vast majority of clubs dotting every ' i ' and crossing every ' t ' in a bid to stay within limits , if a rogue club just receives a little 3 point deduction for being a naughty child .
