O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

If we lose to Everton (who are awful) he’s bang in trouble surely
I think he’d get the West Ham game and anything but a loss buys him the next one. Where we either lose and he gets sacked and we’re deep in the shit or he gets a spawny result and the cycle continues!

I don’t think he’s ever getting us comfortable and the other teams are shit enough to keep us in the mix regardless so he probably keeps his head above water until the very end where we will either scrape survival and just fall short

Still think it's more about the table than the results. Lose the next 2 and only be a couple of points off 17th and I still don't think they'd sack him. A winner in the Ipswich v Palace game is bad news for him

He’s here for the season, he’ll be getting the sack when we’re bottom third of the championship and look like going down

I don't know if he'd stay for the Champo, particularly if he's still getting an easy ride from the ms media. Very easy to call back to last summer, and Loppers going because of the restrictive transfer policy, and say he would have no choice but to leave.
And I'd be very worried that despite the expected player exodus when we get relegated that the transfer policy would still be driven by resaleability rather than building a balanced squad.

I'm not sure what resaleability looks like in the Championship for us. We rarely sign players from continental Europe outside of Portugal, the young South American options wouldn't be interested, so really you are looking at PL kids who haven't made it and league 1 players with upside. We all dream of a team of Tommy Doyles

I’m not sure I can handle his football in the championship
It might work wonderfully at that level. In the Prem it’s way too easy to play through, but with the precipitous drop in opposition quality at that level we may not get punished nearly so easily down there.

Uh. We should still sack him. Obv.

You'd also need to account for our own significant drop in quality if we got relegated. The current attacking talent we have wouldn't be there. O'Neil won't have anyone near as good as Cunha to bail him out in the Championship. This isn't a situation like Kompany trying to force a style of play that works in the second tier but not the first. He's clueless and relies on individual quality which we wouldn't have.

As we all discussed the players left after relegation would make for an unpleasant read bit like checking your bank balance on the 01/01.
I don’t want us to go down but the likes of Hobbs and Shi fully deserve it for how they’ve run things. Shi in particular since 2020 has been a disgrace and turned a very healthy European club into probable relegation certainties.
I think we’re edging very close to the point of no return now this season.
Basically the point at which it’s too late for a new manager to save the situation.
Had yesterday been a tight 1-2 defeat then you’d say these things can happen. But it was a return to the chaotic basketball style football.
Just tells you that this is the norm not the games v Saints and Fulham.
Also goes back to my point about Shi and Hobbs and their ability to replace GON adequately.
When relegation is confirmed Shi and Hobbs should be sacked by Fosun as they’ve overseen and persisted with this blatant disaster of a project.

Shi won’t be sacked by Fosun, they don’t care about us, we’re a footnote in the leisure part of their portfolio under cirque de solei and Thomas Cook, along the lines of
* Wolverhampton wanderers FC (the wolves) football club based in the English Midlands, loss making.

They going to buy a generational talent young Portuguese travel agents instead for way way too much money?
