O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

I’m no great fan of Rayan’s, but Nuno played him plenty. Not sure where you’re getting that.
Seemed to me at the time that Nuno didn't entirely trust him. Looking at the stats he started 16 league games and had 5 appearances as sub in the only season he played under Nuno. That was on loan before a permanent move.

I mean, Nuno's system was all about control. RAN under Nuno versus RAN under O'Neil pretty much sums up the difference between the two eras. I know it got a bit turgid towards the end, but at least we generally knew under Nuno that we'd stay in most games, rarely get turned over, and rarely concede two or more goals in a match.

Nine times out of ten, a central defender is only brought on as a sub because of injury.

Not a tactical reshuffle.

If its tactics, it’s nearly always because the manager picked the wrong team to begin with.

Which the whole world could see……apart from that idiot O’Neil.

It’s the total definition of insanity, we literally make the same fuck ups every week.

Times up. And that’s being generous.

Just feels all very Dave Jones 03/04 nevertheless this group are better in quality though so that’s more of damming slight on GON. We all know how this ends we plod along getting occasional good results and performances but we go down about 5-6 points short whilst conceding a hatful and being outplayed by mediocre sides here and there. I’ll be amazed if we’re still here in 9 months time.

People can talk about the owners and issues and that impact on candidates, but for me the Wolves job is still attractive. A CB and a GK and more structured coaching and plan and this side would pull away from the bottom enough to not be in a dog fight at all is still my feeling.

Hobbs should be walking out the door at the same time as GON, his handling of everything squad and coaching staff related since January has been really poor.
Having said that GON has massively let him down with his set ups.
Today is just a very 90’s attitude of “you can’t change a winning side” way, way to simplistic for this level.
The game probably ends 1-2 to us before the 10 man reduction and Fulham were at their very worst.

Well Talkshite are front and centre of the national GON defence force, trust me there’s still plenty out there putting it all on the mistakes today like it’s just a one off occasion.
WE’VE WON 3 IN 23 AND CONCEDED 34 IN 13 GAMES THIS SEASON AND ARE IN THE BOTTOM 3.
Just patronising crap really and defending a good pal of the station. Also implying we should just be happy to be in the big league, SERIOUSLY FUCK OFF

We’ll lose so many good players at the end of the season who under a decent Coach would have us comfortably mid table, it’s a disgrace that this absolute chancer who continues to spout Lageesque bollocks remains at he Club.

He’s worse than Lage for me now, and I dislike him more. I know others don’t agree, but there’s something about his shtick that particularly grates. I saw some wretched, wretched stuff under Lage, but I don’t recall such sustained lack of basic organisation. It’s embarrassing. Today was utterly unacceptable. I couldn’t give a flying fck if the players quite like him, I can’t stand him and his team. It’s shocking how he gets away with an inability to do the basics simply because he’s a blokey English bloke. I can’t remember the last time I saw a reasonable performance. Crying out loud, the only teams we’ve beaten in living memory were abject sht and we didn’t even put them away comfortably. I’m absolutely livid about today. Fckin fuming. And there’s more to come yet FFS. Whatever results are needed to get rid of him I want them now, even though I’m travelling hours and paying a fortune to endure it.

All boils down to bringing Lage into the club, this is when the rapid decline started.
We’ve never properly recovered from what he did. Appointment of Lop and GON are both direct results of allowing Lage to stay far too long or be appointed in the first place.

Apologies for the long post, but after today I feel its necessary.

There's a few things from today that just really annoy me.

Firstly, his post match comments. In one breath he says we need to 'write off the penalties as you can't win games if you concede goals like that' - I don't know what that means! What are you talking about?

He then goes on to say a few times it was crazy from the players. I'm sorry, you can't stand there last week and lavish praise on yourself for how you've improved Cunha after a 4-1 win, and then a week later say it was crazy stuff from the players following a 4-2 defeat. Taking all the praise, and none of the criticism is an awful trait.

Secondly, and most importantly, is the team selection today. I hate this idea that you can't change a winning side, and need to wait for something like today to happen before you make changes. Its such a cowardly way to manage.

Last week, we played the side we did out of necessity. Dawson and Bueno were unavailable, so Lemina had to play at the back. The following week you have your first choice centre-backs back available, but stick with the makeshift side from the previous week. Fuck that, you're dealing with professional players at the highest level, not an Under 8 Sunday side. Put your strongest side out.

What makes it worse, he's done this before. At Brighton, he admitted he didn't think keeping the same XI was the right idea but 'the boys who played against City deserved another go' - utter shit, and he got out of jail for it in a game we should have lost. So what does he do today, makes the exact same mistake. Its unacceptable.

I'm sure he's a great guy, and I'm sure the players love him, but that's not a reason to keep him in a job. He has consistently shown he doesn't know how to set up a side to defend properly. He has consistently shown he can't manage a game when opponents change tactics. He has now shown at least twice, he doesn't have the balls to make proper decisions on team selection, and waits for something to go wrong before picking the correct XI.

I personally would have got rid of him weeks ago, but for me there's no way back now. I don't want him in charge any more games, regardless of what happens going forward. I'm convinced he will take us down, if by some miracle we don't go down this year (if he stays) it will be because 3 teams have an absolute shocker of a season. I don't see us getting more than 35 points max, probably nearer 30.

Great post, but I don’t agree that he’s a great guy. A great guy would not claim to the credit when it goes well and then blame players / referees / etc when it goes badly. He’s a coward.

This, I still don’t understand why people find him likeable.

51 premier league matches and he’s shown zero ability to reverse how bad we’re as a defensive unit.
It’s a simple equation we won’t be good enough to outscore enough sides to stay up.
