O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

We've spent the majority of my time supporting Wolves in the 2nd tier. And I'm pig fucking sick of it. There's only ever been one time I wanted to be in the Championship, and that was when we were in League 1.

I don't want to have to suffer through another long slog of a Championship season again. If we do go down, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest we'd come straight back up, not the way the club is currently being run.

And apart from all that, Championship football is fucking awful if you're caught up in the middle of it.

Fuck that - Premier League survival at all costs has to be the aim.
Losing every week with shit performances in the Prem. is equally as bad IMO.

But it isn't - we need to be in the Premier League. Going down would be an absolute disaster for the club. Fuck knows what Fosun would do if we go down and their asset is suddenly worth 90% less of what is should be literally overnight.

This is what happens when it seems likely a football club is on the fast-track to relegation. Their fans start trying to kid themselves that the division below is better.

I work with a couple of Stoke fans and I can guarantee you that they would swap our position with theirs every single day of the week. The Championship is shit.
No. It's obvious it isn't better. All I was saying was that it wasn't a disaster.

And I agree, there is no guarantee of coming back up. Our two relegation's in succession taught us that.

However, what is the point of being in the Prem really? Great when you have a team that can perform but when you have a shit team like we now have, it's an absolute slog and ultimately ends up the way it has done for so many teams.

Again, all about perspective and how you take your football. For me, it's just an experience in life now. It's not the be all and end as it once was. I just hate going into every game knowing we're likely to get stuffed. Under Nuno, there was a direction, a plan and there was every possibility of winning games against the very best teams. Today, all of that has drained away and we are stuck in the same situation as Everton, Leicester, Southampton, Leeds, etc... awaiting the inevitable.

No it isnt. You want consistent lower league shite then Walsall is next door
Well, when we get drilled on Saturday, you let me know how you feel. And then when Villa do the same, see how you feel then. Repeat ad nauseum.

A lot fucking better than I would in a lower division my friend. A lot fucking better.

Another disaster claim. Reality is that it isn't.
We are financially sound.
Fosun.... their asset wouldn't be worth 90% less and it may just be a wake up call to either invest again or sell. In either case, its progress.

Yeah but everyone expects a roasting against City, and the Villa game is a derby and derbies are unpredictable so…..

Last time we went down we went all the way to League One and had to start all over again plus we didn't have players on the kind of money we have now or a squad that had cost so much. I would expect us at best to become a mid-table shit club like Albion desperately trying to reach 6th each season but also glancing over our shoulders at the teams creeping up behind us, a bit like how we were for most of the 1990s, rinse and repeat
I see it differently. Over recent years, most relegated teams have been at the top end by season finish. Some get promoted back, others don't. I don't think we'd become mid table as we do have some good players. However, even if we did make it back, what is the point? Look at the bottom three currently. After having enjoyable times last season, one of them gets hammered 8-0 at home. The others also know they are cannon fodder.

That's basically what we are becoming through crap management over the last two to three years. A slow steady decline.

I totally understand the arguments about playing in the top league but I want to watch a team that competes. This team has done it for 180 minutes this season. 90 mins of those were against Everton who are equally as shit.

How about if we stay up, Fosun either wake up and improve their structures within the club or we get taken over by a more ambitious owner and we return to something like what we were under Nuno or even better?

I get the "if we go down its not a disaster" thinking. Don't agree but get it.

Stripping everything away, the club will still exist, we may win games, we may score goals. We will still support them, moan at them, celebrate like fuck when we beat some shithouses in the 96th min etc etc.

From a footballing view point...yes it's a disaster. Years spent dicking around in 2nd tier or below and we get to the PL and look like we belong here then insanely do our best to throw it all away.
Few years back we were in Europe and all of a sudden "well QPR away sounds good"
Fook that right off.

Wonder if Watford fans think being in the Championship is better than the PL.

Isn't there something wrong with that perspective though? Are we just supposed to meekly roll over and accept annihilation?
Not so long ago we were beating them at their place and at ours.... now, it seems, we are accepting that being roasted by City is our normality and we shouldn't expect anything else. If this is the case, then what is the point of being a Prem. team?

Villa... basically we've traded places with them over the last few seasons. They survived when a goal that should have been given wasn't and then they have rebounded to overtake us. OK, they've thrown money around to do so but how far we have receded is startling. Wasn't that long ago we were toying with them and were seen even by their fans as light years above them. I don't see us beating them and we were a tad fortunate to do so in May.

Sure. I'd be happy with that. How likely is it to happen though? Remains to be seen.
