O'Neil aka GONe

We've just been massively second best to probably the worst team the premier League has seen for years. How can it get worse!?
I refer you to when we lost to Luton, sacked Solbakken and appointed Dean Saunders.

I refer you to when we sacked McCarthy and replaced him with Terry Connor.

I refer you to the incompetent thundercunts we have in charge who whilst appointing Nuno, Lambert and Lop as good decisions also appointed Zenga (!), Lage and GON.

It can definitely get worse.

This may mean you defriend me for life but I heard the track 'Silence is Easy' the other day and thought 'this is a fucking tune'.

Didn't click who it was and I felt dirty afterwards.

That was the O'Neil performance v Man Utd.
It's not even their best track either.

On the one hand, I feel it’s almost hilariously too soon for this sort of talk.

On the other, GO is giving me nothing to latch on to and the criminal underperforming has continued basically unchecked.
Agree. He’s not doing anything to prove the doubters wrong.

We are getting relegated, GON will be sacked. I find it really weird that the only thing that worries you is it gets worse. What is worse, new guy relegated us and gets sacked 🤷‍♂️

But this guy is Saunders, Conner and Lage.

Which is why it can't get any worse. We're nailed on for relegation now so any change is going to be better than this clown.

Sorry but no.

If you played me two Starsailor tracks I would say "this band are awful and the fat headed singer has a terrible voice, turn it off FFS". I would not say "well let's hear the full album".
Well an album isn't really a fair analogy for a football team, is it?

The only thing I bristle at in regard to the GO conversation at this point is that there is an exceptionally short leash given to all managers/coaches at this level, and really throughout world football. I understand completely that part of this is due to the nature of relegation and the very real consequences of a one-off bad year.

That doesn't mean I'm fully agreed with the idea that we suddenly know everything there is to know about GO as a manager after six games. That's an extraordinarily short amount of time and no, I'm not totally comfortable with the (in my opinion) unrealistic expediency with which I see football supporters of all clubs expecting new managers to get things running like a fine-oiled machine.

None of the above precludes me from also admitting that O'Neil has given us almost no reason whatsoever to be optimistic about how the future will go. I haven't even explicitly disagreed with the thread's thesis.

This never makes any sense though.

"Max Kilman is fucking wank and can't run, turn or jump, and stands miles off opponents"

"We signed Rob Hindmarch once you know"

We are a Premier League club, don't employ terrible players and managers.

After 6 games I think its a pretty fair analogy TBH. You've got a decent idea of what they can and can't do.

I'd have used Florence and her fucking infernal Machine personally though.

I'd have thought Kasabian would be your go to here

Well this is the core of why I'm of a different opinion, really. Six matches doesn't feel like enough time for getting a "decent idea". That's just where I'm at with it and tbf I appreciate that I won't be convincing others.

Sacking GO now would feel icky as hell, but again, it's very telling that I can't find any other arguments to keep him than "I don't want to feel icky".

All I can add is that I sincerely hope we are looking at possible replacements for GON. At no level is going to Luton and playing like that acceptable. We have spent millions on our team and then we play like that with no attacking intent. Seems to me our owners want to retain full control of everything including the playing side. You would have thought they would try to recruit the best manager possible to handle the football side of things but instead they continue to flap around making poor decisions. In no way is this coach an acceptable choice for a team that has spent so much money and that has some quality players.
