I do question the whole 'not fit to start' thing. Surely it's better them starting and then if they are struggling they can be replaced? Bring them on as subs and something goes wrong how do you replace them? 🤷‍♂️ It's not like they are lacking in aerobic fitness, they've been missing a couple of weeks not a couple of months.
I'm guessing he's hoping we don't need to bring them on, only if we're 1-0 nil down with 10 to go.

I doubt Cunha has trained more than a couple of times since Spurs tbh, he wasn't even in the country for a while.

My simplistic view is are they good for 50 minutes or more at something approaching flat out? If they are you start them, if not you don't

That makes sense but not starting them suggests they're not fit enough, bit worrying.
Maybe Hwang will get a hat trick and we can leave Cunha on the bench.

Yeah, that's not enough time to be bothered by a lack of fitness/stamina. If you're concerned about whether he's recovered fully from injury, that's fine, but bringing him on as a sub carries just as much risk of reinjury, and far more risk to the team if he does reinjure hhimself. If that's the concern you're far better off giving 45 minutes from the start. He's a professional footballer, he won't lose fitness or be rusty after missing 3 games. Not a chance.

Didn't Cunha feel something in his groin last time out? Surely taking it easy for a couple of games and building him up is better than doing a Neto?

I'd assume he's got 25-30 minutes of gas, I'd rather use that when opposition players are more fatigued.

I think we’ve shown we’re a bit different to GON’s team now…….where the tactics were just about getting it to Cunha and hoping for magic.

He did the same thing with Neto, too.

Probably a damage limitation exercise tonight... but we need to watch Isak very closely and not leave him any space. Gordon has come on from the diver he once was and is dangerous. Always love the music at Newcastle....as well as the real down to earth football people. I'd be happy with a point but very much doubt our defence can perform to the level required for that to happen. I'm not even quietly confident about this game as I once used to be. :(

Cunha on bench makes sense if he’s not fully fit. If we go 2-0 down no need to risk him and he’s unlike to stop that happening. If we’re in the game on the hour mark he could make an impact.

Positive start from us... good to get a kick on Gordon early doors... :)
