New keeper required

Just giving a comparison.

It's all about confidence with goalkeepers and the shit in front of Ikeme wouldn't fill any keeper with confidence.

It's nothing to do with that at all. If it was him being nervy coming off his line or a miscommunication with the defenders then fair enough but it's long distance shots that should be food and drink for a professional goalkeeper. Have a look where the first goal today hits the net, it's not anywhere near the roof and then look at the 3rd, nowhere near the corner but Ikeme doesn't get close to it.

It's not like it's the first time either and this was happening when we were walking League 1 too and has happened every time Ikeme has had a run in the team since his debut. He has the ability to make great saves but gets beaten far too often from outside the box.

Ikeme was a good league one keeper but has always be error prone and its started to show the more games hes played at this level. He has spent most of is career out on loan and the fact none of them clubs were bashing our door down to take him says it all, a good clubman and a back up keeper at this level. Martinez is in a different class he organises his back four, commands his area and distributes the ball well rather than hoof it straight down the middle of the park.

I think it's everything to do with confidence with Ikeme. He's no Martinez but he's OK for this level. Get a new improved keeper if you want, but we have higher priorities elsewhere in the team IMO.

We could just play Martinez who has made errors but like you say is the better keeper. I don't think Ikeme is good enough for this level if we want to challenge. I don't see why we can't look to improve in all areas, we should always be looking to do that if a better option becomes available.

Yep that is part of the problem but too many 20 metre plusses end up in our net with Ikeme in goal

I'll have to re-watch the third as I only saw it live, not psyched up to watching highlights yet, but first goal he should of got a hand to. The only thing about the third goal was there seemed to be a lot of bodies in the way he probably saw the shot very late on. If anyone was at fault then I'd say it was the defence for backing off, but I need to watch it again. One of my main criticisms I have with him is his slow distribution, which is why I felt Martinez is the better of the two, and he is a better shot stopper than Ikeme too. I don't really care any more if he's loan, on this signing for me recruitment has now been vindicated, if he is fit he should be playing look for a permanent replacement in summer.

Ikeme has been poor and will probably be replaced by Martinez for the next game who was responsible for the worst goalkeeping display I've witnessed at Molineux since Boswell let 6 in against Liverpool.

Sorry reading my post it appears brusque. That was in no way intended. Total agreement about inspiring confidence.

Martinez is a vastly superior keeper. I wonder what the chances are of keeping him.

Ikeme is an ok keeper. Unfortunately the defence in front of him requires him to be an exceptional keeper, which he never will be!

Martinez should start the next game, as I think he is a good keeper who will only get better with experience.

This for me. Ikeme has a slow, useless, rubbish, defender in front and to the left of him who don't stop teams having long range shots or from getting crosses in. We need to replace Doherty and Batth but I feel EEL will benefit from a vocal, organiser next to him. Martinez, however, has to start next week

Folk are saying we need a new goalkeeper, but who should we try to get?

Martinez in would be a start Frank with Ikeme as back up until the club can sort things out.
I couldn't believe it when Ikeme was beaten, over his head from 25 yards...he didn't get close to it. How tall is he? Shocking...but then the third goal looked almost straight down the middle of the goal..He does that too often for my liking

Yeah this sums it up well. I don't think Ikeme is anywhere near as bad as others have said, but he needs dropping and simply isn't as good as Martinez.

When the Doosch hates on a player his ability to judge goes out of the window....

He's been at fault for about nine goals this season. It's January. He didn't even play for a couple of months. If that's not bad then what is exactly?

They offered nothing except target our left side and shoot from distance. The first goes in, they grow in confidence. Teams do when they know they can score against us. We altered our whole ethos and style of play because we have a crap defence and we still get sussed out. Sorry guys, but Danny Batth should have gone (with Stearman) ages ago. He needs dropping or selling and hopefully KJ has the gonads to do it. Look at the hero Stearman now ???. If they do not sort that defence out without having to park five in front of them they have massive problems - not least the only way they attract supporters is offering them half price tickets. That attempt at percentage football wasn't worth a fiver. It cannot get any more base than that ....

It works both ways though. I can't imagine Batth and EEL are filled with confidence knowing the chap behind them can't deal with long-range efforts.

I like Ikeme, he dealt with being dropped from the team like a professional and he gets on with his job quietly. We just have a much better option in Martinez, who needs to play.
