Thanks chaps - my perception (mainly from my Dad and Grandad as well as you good folk) was that Ken Hibbitt was the better player.

And I've no doubt that Andy Gray was very good but even I know we shouldn't have chucked all the money straight on him.

Not much between them but Hibbitt definitely wins on longevity.

Agreed - Daley was a top player for about 3-4 seasons, whereas Kenny it was about 10 seasons - one of my all-time favourites was Kenny Hibbitt.

Agree with Kiwi, I loved Kenny Hibbitt.

He was absolute quality.

Yeah, my opinion of him has changed significantly!

You just don't know what is going on with players when we are giving them stick.

Like Seth Johnstone moving from Derby to Leeds. Story goes he was offered a certain amount by Risdale, let’s say £15k a week to which SJ’s agent said you’re joking, as he thought it really was a joke being offered so much. Risdale’s reponse was to double it!

I liked Hibbitt more but Daley was still a very good player. Hibbitt was generally very good also but also had the benefit of playing further forward and he scored some eye catching goals.

Joe Hodge has somehow been signed by not one but two Premier League clubs, and is still playing* in Primeira Liga.


*6 starts for a team who are almost certainly going down

Hodge wasn't a PL player, I could easily name 50 worse ones who've play for us in the last 45 years. Halford, Bentley, Chirewa, Fraser, Bassong, Jonsson, Gorman all in the PL.

Think you're vastly overselling him. All of those were rubbish for Wolves but Halford and Bentley made decent Championship careers along the way (hard to believe with Quadbike Greg but some clubs liked him, Forest, Charlton and Pompey for sure, maybe Sheff Utd too) and Bassong even had at least two decent PL seasons elsewhere.

Joe Hodge will never ever make a career at Championship level, I wouldn't have him for Kidderminster, Telford or Hednesford. No attributes at all.

The story I heard was before the meeting started his agent told him "I reckon we can get 10k a week from them" to Johnstone. And then Risdale opened with "We won't go above 15k" and the agent ended up getting nearly double that.

Risdale must have known someone who played Champ Man 3.
