Manchester City 2-0 Wolves 24/1 - Verdict Thread

A routine victory for City that I’m pretty sure Edwards would have accepted before kick off. Looked better in the second half simply because City just wanted to conserve energy.

Gutless team selection by RE. It's bad enough sticking with Hwang but to play him as a lone forward at the expense of Tolu was just baffling.

He got what he wanted though, a defeat that wasn't a hammering but against a half speed City who took pity on us and rested Haaland.

When the extent of your ambition is not to get hammered, then I suppose it's an ok result.

Just wish we dared to want more than that. This isn't a vintage Man City team, so why not? Game over after 6 minutes today.

Much better 2nd half when we replaced Tchatchoua and Arias with footballers. Might be a sign of how much we've improved but I think today was a bit of an opportunity missed. City weren't at it at all. Difference is the quality - City will capitalise on those little moments 8/10 - we might manage it 2/10. Mane was great. Real deal that kid.

I'm not a defender of Hwang at all, but I do feel that Tolu has become overrated for basically trying when the guy he replaced wasn’t, he's also not very good. On a similar note Mosquera is becoming a cult hero where the performances get ignored for the character
Tolu is better than Hwang though, even if it doesn’t mean much.

Mosquera has played well lately but he is a dickhead.

I don’t have much complaints about today. Two soft goals to concede imo but our general play wasnt horrific. We rely on mane a lot to make anything happen of course

Was getting frustrated with the ref in the first half due to the number of times we seemingly pinched possession back only for him to blow up for a City free kick. But you have to tip the cap to him for not buckling on their pen shout. All in all, a good debut for him.

As for the football, I didn’t agree with the starting 11. RE obviously thought Hwang/Arias would give us an out ball and be willing runners, but it panned out how we all expected - attack v defence - because we had no one to hold the ball up. The second goal killed us and the game. Had we got to half time 1-0 down, Edwards could probably have argued his plan worked.

To no one’s surprise what so ever, we looked much better without Jackson and eventually Hwang on the field. By that point, City were going through the motions so difficult to give much of an appraisal. At least it wasn’t a battering.

Thanks to Pep for slinging Haaland on for the final 20 minutes when he didn’t need to - it’s 2-0 and the games done. And to Haaland himself for waddling around without touching the ball. How to turn 16 FPL points into 2 in the blink of an eye!

I fancy us v Bournemouth next weekend if he finally works up the courage to drop Jackson & Hwang.

Very routine for city, we were better second half but had we got a foothold I’m sure they’d have upped the tempo again.
These types of games happen a bit to often in the PL now. Top sides happy to sit on 2 or 3 goal lead and the opposition happy to not get battered and move on.
First half wasn’t a game between 2 sides in the same division, in name yes but in reality no.
We were better when the game was already gone, didn’t get battered and put in a respectful overall performance so the minimum requirement.

City are weak against the ball over the top and it almost worked twice early on (spoilt once by players standing offside) but once they got that early goal it was a struggle. I think we really play out of defence much better than earlier in the season so think RE deserves some credit. 2 incidents second half when Silva became robocop throwing Larsen into the net on one corner and then alternated between Larsen and Gomes on the next one - clearly a penalty shout. Later Mane was clipped in the area and it wasn’t even reviewed - why not ? Their penalty claim was looked at minutes after the incident. At least VAR can’t fuck us next season

What a load of bollox.

I’m dreading the championship however days like yesterday I won’t miss, games where the opponent can beat you when they’re in second gear and they can do that v any side in the bottom half if hey want to.
Wont miss feeling like a side show bob in these fixtures either.
Says a lot I look forward more to games I know we have a real chance of winning as opposed to playing the likes of City or Arsenal etc
The PL is the best place to be without question but even then I think it’s all a bit too much of the same predictable stuff.

I won't miss the fans on Twitter who have come to the game post VAR, don't really understand it and think that a still image proves their case. Loads of them out there yesterday mainly filled with paranoia.

Well, we set up to make the game as difficult as possible for ourselves. No outball, though I'm sure the theory was to play the ball through city's back like for Hwang/arias and Mane to run onto it. Unsurprisingly it failed.

Great ball in by Nunes, though Bueno should maybe work on trying to stop a cross occasionally, and I'm not sure what Mosquera thought he was doing in falling over and pretending he was injured, just get in the way of the striker and there's no goal.

We looked much better when bringing on a striker, though Man City were in second gear for the whole game.

Definitely not a pen imo, thought the ref did ok for his first PL appearance.
