Man City 3-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Only seen the goals so not a lot to add other than that 3rd is on Lopetegui more than it is Sa. It's being coming for weeks, the only positive is it didn't cost us points.

Lage wanted a sweeper keeper so we got Sa, if Lopetegui wants one that can pass out from the back then go and get one, but let's not invite a car crash with one who can't. Dawson is less comfortable with the ball at his feet than Kilman, so continue with it and it'll only get worse

Not learned anything new but confirmed that a genuine centre forward who can act as a focal point for the likes of Podence, Sarabia and Cunha would see us offering a lot more threat. A goalkeeper to provide an option would be nice but can wait until the summer.

My worry and eye test though is that teams with the weakest keepers are usually the ones that ultimately go down. It's too important a position to get wrong.

I completely understand JLs style so far of starting with a slightly weaker 11, holding out till second half then introducing our better players, due to lack of fitness and new players bedding in.
Going forward I'd like to think we can start our best 11, get us on the front foot and dominate a some games. The introduction of Cunha and Sarabia, with Podence will hopefully allow us to start actually creating better goal scoring chances.
I do think we are seeing the consequences of Lage leaving the team unfit. We are making a large number of changes every much both before and during.

In the short term we just need him to stop trying to be too clever. If we added a cf he might actually be able to kick it to someone who can keep hold of it. Neither Costa or Raul are up to it.

Pretty sure it's on José Sa to be honest. Awful decision making and awful technique.

He's just a moron who in 18 months has given up a load of appalling goals, in many different ways.

A manager shouldn't be asking a player to do something he's not capable of. Simple as that for me, it's bleeding obvious that goal was coming. You cover the limitations of players, you don't expose them

If he can't pass the ball 10 yards or work out for himself that it's better to just get rid then he shouldn't be in the team.

He's just shit.

He isn't shit.

He has some glaring weak points though. Even when he was in his finest form he had those.

We have already let it be known we are looking at keepers but I don't think we bring in a first choice in January.

2 seperate things. He can't, but he's being asked to.

Or he thinks he’s better than he is and is ignoring advice to get rid of the ball if in doubt? We don’t know but I’m certain Lop would rather he was a little more cautious.

It would be a big coincidence for Sa to start playing that way post Lopetegui's arrival and it not be on instruction

They are all largely shit at it. Sa plays it into Collins in a dead end, who then gives it back to Sa across his body on his weak foot. He’s then panicking as he doesn’t want to play a pass with his left so either dallies and has a swing at it or gives it away.

There’s playing out from the back and then there’s doing it for the sake of it, and hoofing from an inferior position. Our indentification of when to do it initially and when to just abort it mid phase is atrocious.

This playing out from the back is already a thing of the past, De Gea/Wan Bissaka just been caught out the same, costing a corner, leading to a goal.
Play the percentage.

Keepers and defenders always get flak when it goes wrong but it has to be a whole team thing, especially against teams that will press high. It's up to the players ahead of the ball to provide options and out balls as much as it is for the keeper/defenders to find them.

No doubt he’s being encouraged to try and play from the back but equally I’m sure Lop will be telling him if it’s too tight hoof it. Can only hope Sa learns from recent errors and takes more care. On the bright side it’s a change from rushing out at forwards and giving penalties away.

Too many panic buttons being hammered for me. People need to look at City's home results this season so far: 4-0, 4-2, 6-0, 6-3, 4-0, 3-1, 2-1, 1-2, 1-1, 4-0 and today's 3-0.

Let's be realistic in the context of what we've seen of Wolves since August

Edit: we actually walked off with a below average goals conceded (3.2x) haha

Corruption again.
City should have been down to 10 men.
That's a foul on Hwang and last man.

Fouls on Traore. De Bruyne again commits a trip to stop a break and Coote smiles at him.

It's really starting to annoy.
It's a fucking joke.
I have to agree.

Obviously I’m on a downer cuz we lost but a combination and accumulation of various things over the last couple of weeks…..years are convincing me that there is an agenda.

Games, probably not all but a sufficient number, are being influenced to get an outcome.

Clear to me in the cup games that we were never going to be allowed to progress and even last week against West Ham we were never going to get a second goal to put the game to bed in the hope West Ham would get a scrawny equaliser

Anyway, let’s move on.

We played some reasonable stuff at times once we settled down, especially after only touching the ball about 3 times in the first 15 mins but they always looked like they always had another’s gear.

Citeh are behind us now this season, and hopefully when we meet them again next season we’ll go into the game more positively wanting to win rather than setting ourselves up not to lose.

Collins MOTM, thought he was outstanding tbh

Well if you’re CB is in a dead end then don’t give him the ball. That’s the GK not the CM.

Then if the CB is in a dead end play the ball so the keeper can hoof it.

Yes the whole team need to be in sync. But if a team like City are pressing agressively then it’s just stupidity. Take the 1 v 1 match up long and get a pedestrian midfield running backwards.

As I said, it's a whole team thing, players off the ball need to provide options and outlets, player with the ball needs to make the right choices and the coach has to guide them all into his design. It's rarely down to one person, bad decisions influence more bad decisions and eventually you get a failure, it usually ends up with one individual getting most of the blame even if it's a failing of the wider system..
